X Division to be disbanded in TNA?

Rick GarrardPosted on 01/09/08 at 01:26:35

from rajah:

- Dave Meltzer is reporting that Christian Cage vs. Samoa Joe vs. AJ Styles will headline tonight’s iMPACT tapings which will be the episode that will air a week from Thursday on Spike TV. In addition to the main event, they will reveal the rest of the stipulations in the Team 3-D & Johnny Devine vs. Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley & Jay Lethal match. The stipulations for Team 3D are if they win the street fight, the X Division will be disbanded.

my thoughts:  The main reason I used to watch TNA and it's probably going away.

the beginning of the end of TNA ... I figure by the end of the year the six sided ring will be gone, and in 18 months, so will the promotion ...

its sad really because once again Vince Russo has destroyed perfectly good thing by signing main event talent from the WWE and pushing them over the "homegrown" talent. Once Cage, Angle and Booker came to TNA, guys like AJ Styles, Chris Daniels, the X Division, and the rest were obliterated ...

no this is TNA jokes on this on, this is all Russo's doing ...
EkajPosted on 01/09/08 at 03:04:46

I wouldn't mind seeing the 6-sided ring going away.

The Dudleys have expressed interest in going BACK to the WWE... could this be their TNA swan song? ;)

I disagree that this is the beginning of the end. That was when they hired Vince Russo.

As has been established many, many times, Vince Russo is only a problem when there is no one around to keep him in check. That's been responsible for the boneheaded booking moves he's made thus far in TNA, but I very much doubt he would be able to book a "no more X Division" angle without someone in management cutting him off at the pass. For all the dumb shit TNA has pulled lately, I still can't believe they would be so dumb as to eliminate the X Division entirely.

Now, that's not to say Team 3D might not WIN this street fight in question -- in fact, I won't be surprised if they do -- but if they do, it doesn't mean the end of the X Division, it means a temporary absence of the official X Division title while a bunch of cruiserweights protest the situation and, eventually, defeat Team 3D to bring the division back. That would put this angle safely in the realm of "angle" and away from the direction of actually changing the way the league is run.

Then again, let's be honest... The X-Division is a shadow of what it once was (IE: The main reason to watch NWA:TNA).

At this point, none of the "new" (WWE) talent they've been bringing in really fits the X-Division, and some of the alumni are being made to fit into more traditional wrestling styles.
Rick GarrardPosted on 01/09/08 at 14:39:37

you can't have "traditional wrestling style" in a 6 sided ring.  ;)
jursoPosted on 01/09/08 at 16:35:52

the six sided ring is still something I can't really deal with, but not a main reason I don't watch the show ... that would be my absense of TV (usually) and Vince Russo is booking ...

TNA just generally makes no sense to me ... I happened to catch Impact a month or so ago (when they were announcing who got what in the Feast or Famine briefcases) and it was painful to watch ... the booking sucked, the way they revealed the cases (stretched over the length of the show ... who are you competing against that you have to keep people tuned in to watch ... the writers strike has led to more "Watch Jake Strip" reality shows) and Mike Tenay and that other guy made me want to ... well ... watch ... Jake ... strip ... (Montgomery Burns shudder) ...

the best thing about that Impact was I was introduced to Angelina Love and Velvet Sky. I was impressed with these two. They have great mic skills, good charisma in the ring, have good ring work (or did against "drunk Jackie, ugh) ... oh yeah, they are really hot, which helps. I almost instantly looked for export files on TNA UK, found them and put them on my Raw roster and am pushing Love to the Women's Title with a potential match at the Royal Rumble ...

really, for me, other than the women's division (I love the Gail Kim v. Awesome Kong angle, always been a fan of Gail Kim, even my wife will concede she is hot), TNA really has nothing much to offer anymore

Then again...

Fixed.
JeffPosted on 01/10/08 at 17:54:53

isn't Big Dick and the Fat Oily Guy one and the same?
EkajPosted on 01/10/08 at 19:25:46

I think he means TNA's "fat, oily and hairy guy."
