TNA is taking over the Literary Wrestling Federation?

Sweet!  Now I can finally see the Sting vs. Oliver Twist Steel Cage Match I've been dreaming of for so long!

Seriously, though, are you sure they said anything on TNA Impact? I read the review of the show and nothing was said about this.

There are tons of reviews online which include this news. The promotion is supposedly New Japan, for the record.

Is Inoki really THAT stupid?  (or that in need of money?)  I thought that New Japan (including the Inoki dojo in California) was firmly part of the NWA?
A True Brazilian PatriotPosted on 10/21/07 at 21:03:55

Inoki hasn't controlled New Japan for like 2 years now, although YUKES/NJ control his image, which is hilarious.

He moved his NWA affiliation to the Inoki Genome Federation earlier this year.

I only concern myself with Wrestling Observer and it wasn't mentioned on there. Anything else is just WrestleZone quality.

Bit harsh, not much else is THAT bad. Besides, the Observer can't be so blindingly great if it forgot to mention the New Japan stuff. :)

I mean, was the mention on the actual broadcast nothing more than a brief mention from Tenay or one of those alerts for TNA mobile? I can't blame reviewers if they aren't paying 100% attention to the TNA product. I can't say I understand the reasoning either. TNA needs to worry about their product before trying to acquire another troubled promotion.

In that case, why were you casting doubt on whether they'd said anything on Impact at all? Saying "yeah, I don't blame them for not including every detail" contradicts the earlier "well the Observer sure as hell didn't say anything, are you sure this even happened" stuff.

I can't say I understand the reasoning either. TNA needs to worry about their product before trying to acquire another troubled promotion.

Whilst I sort of see the stance of TNA - the acquisition of a big name brand that shadows the rumoured notions for some time that the WWE wanted to expand their brands globally, as well as offering the same perks that the WWE have since they bought WCW (and ECW if you want to include that) - I can't disagree with you. TNA needs to be increasing its own stock before worrying about any expansions. They've only just gotten the two hour timeslot they've been clamouring for, they need to start panning things out there first.

On a further note in regards to the two hours, this of course means no more excuses if things don't go uphill. First it was "oh, TNA just need a TV deal and then they'll be able to compete with the WWE", then it was "oh, TNA just needs to go prime time" and then it was "oh, TNA just needs another hour". I don't think anyone in or out of TNA is going to be able to say "oh, they just need to purchase New Japan and they're well away".

To the average wrestling fan, purchasing New Japan means nothing. It's not like the WWE purchasing ECW and WCW. So, I'm not sure what they're getting out of the deal. I'm not familiar with puro so if they have some top stars then maybe it's good.

No it wouldn't mean anything to the average fan. I think that's probably the main problem - New Japan is a big name, but the WWE had two massive boons from the WCW purchase. First off was the tape library, TNA would be able to do next to dick with a puro library so we'll ignore that.

The other is that they were able to do the big WWF vs WCW feud that fans had been baying to see for years and then keep the big names afterwards. Nobody has been dying to see TNA vs New Japan, and as good as some of the guys in NJPW may be, it's unlikely they're going to be the guys to draw in the big crowds in the States (plus we are talking Vince Russo as booker here). Doubtless if booked right they could make some money off such an angle, but I can't see them covering their costs.
A True Brazilian PatriotPosted on 10/22/07 at 07:37:29

NJPW doesn't own their tape library, anyway. At least not a significant portion of it. (I'm not sure if they own Samurai! TV and sXw footage.)
