Is it 4 or 5?

JustinPosted on 08/12/07 at 05:03:08

The main event at Hard Justiceis being advertised as: "All Or Nothing.. 5 World Titles on the line"

Kurt Angle: TNA World Champion & IWGP Champion

Samoa Joe: TNA X Division Champion & sole holder of the TNA World Tag Team Title.

I count 4 Titles... 5 belts but only 4 titles.

Unless there is another title that TNA hasnt told anyone about yet.
UnrightPosted on 08/12/07 at 07:16:40

Maybe they're still counting the NWA World Heavyweight Title for some reason...  :P
The EmpressPosted on 08/12/07 at 07:36:35

Or the tag titiles as two titles.

Don't they have absolutely no control over the IWGP title? Doesn't that mean that Angle is winning if this is the case? Does this mean Joe is getting screwed over again?

(never mind the fact Russo is booking and Joe has Angles "ex" wife in his corner)
mamushiPosted on 08/12/07 at 19:16:23

They don't have any REAL control over the IWGP belt, but as long as they didn't mind ruining any relationship they have with Inoki they could just drop the belt on Joe.  Inoki would never recognize it and shit would hit the fan, but they COULD.

Or maybe they got permission from Inoki to drop the title on Joe... which in my opinion would degrade the IWGP title, especially after the Inoki/IWGP/NJPW fiasco

Vince Russo going over everybodies heads and booking an IWGP title to change hands on his show, possibly with a stupid gimmicky finish? Now you're talking crazy.
CrplsPosted on 08/12/07 at 21:07:21

Angle is winning so it doesn't really matter.

hahaha, touche sir... touche
The EmpressPosted on 08/12/07 at 23:10:19

Why would Samoa joe winning the IWGP title degrade it?  Joe is an excellent worker, I doubt he could degrade any championship.
CrplsPosted on 08/12/07 at 23:42:14

Ignoring the fact it's really dumb to talk about the "meaning" of titles since they don't mean anything beyond the context of whatever a promotion wants them to mean... the 3rd Generation IWGP title doesn't really mean much because it's only ever been held by Brock who went through the motions in all of his matches with it, then stole it from its actual owners and lost it to 2007 Kurt Angle.

TNA has been saying "All five belts on the line" usually, not "all five titles", which I took to mean that they counted both Tag BELTS seperate.

As for the IWGP title, I *PERSONALLY* consider the one still being defended in NJPW as the real deal, and this new one is just the IGP Title/NWA Japan Title. (Funny that even though the TNA/NWA deal is done, TNA *STILL* has control over at least one NWA belt :-P)

The only issue I see with Joe winning would be if IGP had already signed off on a title defense by Angle in the near future. However, with Joe possibly leaving TNA, I don't think that's likely. (Then again, I still figure we'll hear TNA and Joe have a new deal eventually)

The promo video for the PPV itself says "5 World Titles On the Line"

Well then, pooh.

Oh well, I still say they're counting both tag belts

I dunno. Pretty sure he's rejecting it at this point and he's one of the few guys who actually make good money on Indies.

Plus, he has a NOAH date in November, which could turn into a full tour if he doesn't have TNA obligations.

It NJPW one is the real deal. It would just be silly for TNA to promote it as not since they're making it part of the match.

IGF, at least publicly, started referring to it as the "3rd Generation IWGP Belt" after NJPW threatened to sue.

So Joe *IS* indirectly working for WWE ;->

A WWE Hall of Famer is looking for the next top talent in sports-entertainment at his training camp in Missouri.

Nine-time World Champion Harley Race is in charge of the World League Wrestling/ Pro Wrestling NOAH Training Camp, to be held Sept. 17-22 in Eldon, Mo. In a conversation with WWE.com, Race said the camp is tailored to male and female talent of all experience levels.
Whole article here: http://www.wwe.com/inside/news/harleyracecamp2007

(Obviously, the camp has little to do with NOAH and nothing to do with WWE :-P)
