Memo To TNA & Abyss

JakePosted on 12/15/06 at 17:10:59

Memo to TNA: Get rid of the 6-sided ring.  It's silly watching guys having to re-manuever themselves mid-move just to land in the corners or bounce off the ropes.

Memo to Abyss: You're a "monster" so start acting like one.  Monsters do not flail their arms around and look lost during their matches.  Start no-selling and stop throwing your arms around when you get up/knocked down.

Other than that, I thought last night was a pretty decent show.  Much better than Raw, at least.  Save for that VKM bullshit.

Memo to "VKM": Vince doesn't care.  WWE doesn't care.  No one cares.
HugeRockStar760Posted on 12/15/06 at 19:17:14

Besides, no one cares about The James Gang making fun of the WWE. Everyone already knows The Marine was lame. But so are their skits.

As bad as the WWE can be sometimes, it is still a better product overall than TNA. I'm hoping TNA can improve overall to provide decent competition. Unfortunately, I just see TNA leaching off the WWE and being a place where disgruntled former WWE wrestlers bitch about not reaching their full potential despite being World Champion multiple times.

THANK YOU.  If I hear Kurt Angle bitch about his tenure in WWE one more time, I may have to kill him.

I watched all of Impact last night (first time ever, by the way... since the Spike TV debut) with the intention of just watching.  Giving them a real chance, for a change.  What I saw last night wasn't bad by any stretch (James Gang excluded) but really, it left me with nothing to look forward to.  They spent way too much time on Joe/Angle 3, and nearly squashing their fucking champ in a curtain jerker.  Besides AMW breaking up, I don't recall anything else happening.  Hell, they had 3 matches that occured; Petey Williams vs Christopher Daniels, AMW vs LAX and Abyss vs Killings.  I know they only have 1 hour, but come on, with only 3 shows between PPVs, you'd think something could be different.  I mean, it's a bit better than a show full of 2-minute squashes, as it was when they were on Fox Sports but not by too much.

Although, I did enjoy the Nash/Paparazzi thing.  I figured Nash would be putting himself over with this stuff, but he's not, so good for him.
AnubisPosted on 12/15/06 at 23:40:29

Yeah, I have the VKM stuff the benefit of the doubt at first, but it has failed.  Heck, the James Gang just aren't over anymore, not even as a tag team.  It's time to put these two out of the picture.

If Paul Heyman is gone from WWE, I hope TNA boots Vince Russo in favor of Heyman.  Heyman could do so much with the TNA roster, it would be great.
pszPosted on 12/16/06 at 00:09:48

What? You mean you'd rather see a well thought out feud with amazing buildup and stupendous finale instead of Jeff Jarrett laying in the ring for....

Ok, point.
HugeRockStar760Posted on 12/16/06 at 01:08:05

I doubt Paul Heyman will be allowed to leave the WWE before his contract expires. It would be monumentally dumb on the WWE to do that. Plus, the WWE and Paul Heyman have had creative differences in the past only to resolve them and move forward (i.e. Paul rightfully ignores Stephanie McMahon's "creative" requests and books what he wants).

Although, for what TNA has (mostly good wrestlers, lousy talkers), Paul Heyman would benefit that company more than Vince Russo. The WWE should just rehire Vince Russo because he would be perfect for their initiative to make RAW the "edgier" (i.e. cheesy skits no one likes) brand.

But you have to remember, Jesse James was the original lame marine.

ba-ZING!

I was thinking the same thing, but like HRS said, it's unlikely that Heyman is *really* gone from the WWE.

I watched TNA for a while, but I never noticed that this was much of an issue. Maybe now that you mentioned it it'll become obvious, but I can't say I noticed it anymore than say someone on the ground shuffling over to be in a better spot for his opponent's top rope move.

Memo to "VKM": Vince doesn't care. WWE doesn't care. No one cares.
Amen, brotha!

The Six Sided Ring: When it was first announced, I thought "Oh great, a perma-gimmick" and growned audibly. After three weeks or so, I decided I didn't really mind it, it added to the show, whatever.

Fast forward a few months, and I'm back to "Ok, it's a gimmick, get over it" mode :-P

For whatever reason, it's lost it's luster to me. Maybe it's for the reason Jake initially stated, maybe it's that I'm just "too old school", I dunno. But, to me, it's just not... Right anymore.

Just my 2/100 $
HugeRockStar760Posted on 12/17/06 at 05:22:07

The six sided ring differentiates TNA from the WWE but I don't know if that is a good thing or not. Considering the motto of TNA is "We are Wrestling", perhaps they should go back to a standard squared circle and then let Mike Tenay continually shout about TNA being where "WE WRESTLE" like Jim Ross used to do when he was a commentator for the NWA.
pszPosted on 12/17/06 at 05:55:37

I think my biggest complaint is a simple one: It's not symetrical. 4-sides means the wrestlers NEVER have to think "Ok, am I  near one of the two 90-degree corners or one of the four 45s??" or "Is this the long side of the ring, or the short?". Just run and go.

UFC's Octagon works too, because it's ALSO symetrical. No matter where anyone is in the octagon, all 8 sides/corners are identical.
Snabbit888Posted on 12/17/06 at 06:55:05

I think the REAL problem isn't that the 6-sided ring is too many sides, but not ENOUGH sides.  I'm calling for a 14-sided ring.  Let's get on this, TNA.
pszPosted on 12/17/06 at 15:05:01

Ahem... See above. The next LOGICAL step would be 16.

14 would just be silly :-P
phudjiePosted on 12/17/06 at 15:14:14

.....I like the 6 sided ring - I like the fact that during a tag match - the opposing teams are directly facing eachother.....

.....nobody faults the canvas if they don't like a painting.....
King MunshunPosted on 12/17/06 at 19:46:04

A 32-sided ring. Two 16-sided rings stacked on top of each other.

Oh yes, you've just been SERVED.
91Posted on 12/17/06 at 20:04:48

*ahem* Triple Decker anyone? Plus add another side onto one of the rings.
PulsarPosted on 12/17/06 at 21:48:04

can we replace the ropes with barb-wire permanetly? As well as the steel cage around it....and how about a 16 1/2 foot ladder to get between the three rings...and and ....oh and...we'll have tables instead of ring aprons....just lift them and unfold the legs....and then...steel chairs instead of floor mats.

Man...this will be so extreme
americamamushiPosted on 12/17/06 at 23:48:22

and everything will be on fire!!

With El Dandy as Ref. Always.
HugeRockStar760Posted on 12/18/06 at 00:20:18

It seems like every far out idea goes back to Superstar JimiC. He truly is an innovator and visionary.
91Posted on 12/18/06 at 14:23:40

At random intervals, they can drop broken glass onto the spectators because that truly would be hardcore.

By the way, does anyone think this thread has gone off on a bit of a tangent?
pszPosted on 12/18/06 at 16:35:16

No. Nobody's said they should parody another company/previous employment yet (Making this a TRUE TNA idea)
UnrightPosted on 12/19/06 at 15:14:22

Excuse me! I've got these rabid gophers and sharks to be delivered for some type of wrestling event. Where do you want me to set them up?
PulsarPosted on 12/21/06 at 05:29:20

Unright...see JimiC

Over by Mike Tenay and Don West. They do the entire show trying not to get bit so they'll be screaming in terror the whole way through, making the show sound extra hardcore TO THE MAX!

Oh, without a fucking doubt. I am convinced that if ECW had more mainstream TV coverage when they were in their prime, it would be ECW buying out WWE.... not the other way around.
