The state of TNA...

americamamushiPosted on 10/27/06 at 07:28:11

I definitely agree with Lance Storm on the state of TNA. (http://www.stormwrestling.com/102706.html if you haven't read it)

And the battle royal thing they had tonight was ridiculous. Almost as bad as AWA's Turkey On A Pole Match (Though Sgt. Slaughter saying "GET THE TURKEY COLONEL! GET THE... GET THE TURKEY!" is by far one of the best wrestling soundbytes ever). It was a ridiculous and overly complicated concept which only served to seed a tournament, lacked the involvement of some guys that you'd have thought should be in contention for a title shot and with all the Shane Douglas, AMW, LAX, Rhino attack clusterfucking on the outside came off far too overbooked for that portion of the match.

Really, I believe they can do better. Maybe it's just like how WWE's booking isn't what it could be, because they aren't really being pushed to be good. Fans aren't ever being forced to choose between the two products so there really isn't any need for a hard push to be better than they currently are. Fans will watch two mediocre shows on two different nights. But if they have to choose between watching show A or show B because they occupy the same time slot then thats a whole different ball game. I think we're quite a long way from that point still though. :-/

And discuss

Good read. Loved the "Booby Roode" typo.

Best quote from it:
When you want someone to build you a cart that rolls, you don't always need someone with ground breaking innovative ideas, you need someone smart enough to put 4 F'N wheels on the damn thing so it rolls.
Cornette for TNA Booker, Heyman for ECW Booker. Nash for Sma... Never mind.

Bravo for Storm. Great rant. I missed the whole battle royal thing, but it sounds atrocious and the whole Eric "Don't Fire Me" Young thing was great unil he lost that damn match.

Hopefully TNA bookers might listen to Storm a little, since his words might carry more weight than your average smart mark, but I doubt it.

The part I loved about the Tracii thing was that they didnt even acknowledge that she was in TNA beforehand. Like we're a bunch of dumb idiots who dont remember that Ms. Brooks used to be TRACII BROOKS. And the same w/ Austin Starr. But... they remembered D-Ray 3000's name...huh?
JustinPosted on 11/04/06 at 19:46:44

Actually on TNA's website they do say that Austin Starr was known as Austin Aries under his bio on the roster page.

The battle royale was kinda screwy, but not bad.  TNA's product is still superior to WWE's product at the moment.  Absolutely.  No doubt whatsoever.

I dunno about that. I'm not watching TNA again until I hear that Vince "SWERVE!" Russo isn't booking anymore. To me, he's the one that was responsible for both the shittyest period in WWE/F history and the death of WCW. He is wrestling poison.

Anubis is to Vince McMahon as I am to Vince Russo.

I just hope TNA survives until Russo's firing.
HugeRockStar760Posted on 11/05/06 at 08:51:09

I don't understand the logic behind TNA re-hiring Vince Russo. TNA was getting low ratings, but that's all they could get at their time slot. Now that they are moving to a better timeslot, it should be interesting to see how TNA does in ratings with Russo in charge.

Personally, I can't sit through an entire Impact anymore.

If they're not bitching about WWE, they're having problems with "management" ala Bischoff in WCW, but to a ridiculous degree.

The matches are generally solid (though the 6-sided ring appeal wore off on me LONG ago), I'm just... I dunno... Tired of WCW-Lite style booking.

Hell, at this point, I'm waiting for Kevin Sullivan to come out and feud with A.J. Styles over his wife :-P

This is at least Russo's third run with TNA.  You think either Dixie Carter or Jeff Jarrett would buy a clue and go in a different direction for the booking at some point.  You'd like to think that somehow Jeff with all his stroke, could get someone with a "traditional" wrestling booking background to come into TNA and book some solid programs.  I'm not really sure why a guy like Scott D'Amore or Terry Taylor isn't running things there, instead of Russo.  Sadly their most consistently solid booking style was the first year when they were in Nashville with their weekly 2 hour PPV's on Wednesday nights.  Things flowed and made sense and you didn't have the NWA Title on Jarrett at that point either which made the NWA seem like it had a chance.  As soon as Jarrett put the title on himself, TNA has been in a constant downfall.  Jarrett is basically the TNA version of Memphis Lawler, whereby all major angles must revolve around him.
phudjiePosted on 11/10/06 at 15:36:29

.....maybe they just hired Russo so they could fire him when they don't do well in the new timeslot.....
AnubisPosted on 11/10/06 at 22:28:28

I think TNA is doing okay right now.  I'm not fond of Abyss going over AJ, but I suppose Sting deserves an easy title defense at first.  Genesis is all about Joe and Angle, after all.
phudjiePosted on 11/10/06 at 23:01:01

.....I'm just saying - if this whole timeslot deal doesn't turn out right - they have abuilt in excuse - and fire Russo to save face if/when they have to
Rick GarrardPosted on 11/11/06 at 15:18:58

phudjie, your avatar is cool, cocky, and bad.  :)
ZedjaPosted on 11/11/06 at 15:29:21

And current seeing how he appearently signed a Legend Deal lately.
