Would get TV Deals so we could finally have a GOOD alternative to the WWE  :D
A True Brazilian PatriotPosted on 10/26/07 at 08:47:43

You're RIP Owen Hart/Mr. Kennedy/etc, right?
JakePosted on 10/26/07 at 16:26:44

No. Getting TV deals = death to superiority.

Sure it's good for money, but at that point, you have to start doing what THE NETWORK wants.

What any of these companies should do if they want 'better' national/world exposure is to do what NWA:TNA did: Cheap, weekly PPVs.

Good point

Getting a TV deal sure is good for a small promotion's income!  It sure helped ECW out a lot!

Cheap weekly PPVs is an even more brilliant plan!  Instead of taping 2 hour shows a month or so in advance and having plenty of time to edit them at a low cost, they could attract a smaller audience at a smaller fee than monthly PPVs, and pay exponentially more in production costs to get a live sattelite uplink!  TNA only lost millions of dollars on that business model, had to sell out to Panda Energy, and dropped to a more conventional business model as soon as it was plausible (a model they are still hemmoraging money with, for what it's worth)!

Indeed, both of these are brilliant plans that cannot possibly fail!

;D

It should also be noted that ROH did have a TV show originally.

They stopped it for a reason.

Starting up a wrestling promotion is hard.

And now for something completely different.  :P

I have an idea. Instead of weekly PPVs how about bi-weekly PPVs? You know, once every two weeks, with a free on-line broadcast in-between the two weeks?
Michael_KingPosted on 12/15/07 at 21:59:59

If I remember correctly, Nickelodeon actually was in talks with CHIKARA but then backed out and created a CHIKARA-like wrestling show that bombed with characters that looked like MOSCOW, Dragon Dragon and USApe.

A TV deal is not always a bad thing. Take ECW Hardcore TV for example (NOT ECW on TNN).

Without that deal, they'd have never toured nationally, internationally, or gotten a PPV deal.

The advantage was that they had *TOTAL* control over content. The disadvantage was that they had virtually no *REAL* sponsorship (no-name rap CDs and local adverts don't really count)

Once they hit a national network spot, though, it was all over... Though that was mainly due to TNN using ECW as a "test bed" for WWF :-P
Rick GarrardPosted on 12/16/07 at 05:00:07

and TNN using ECW as an infomercial for WSL RollerJam immediately following this ECW broadcast.  ;)
meetzorakPosted on 03/21/08 at 14:25:46

or you should live an hours drive away from most CZW, ROH, adn CHIKARA events like me.  ;D
pszPosted on 03/22/08 at 22:31:43

I would love for a web-based, or public-access based ECW Hardcore TV-style show from one of the "Big Indies".

(For the record, ECW Hardcore TV *WAS* broadcast on Cox's public access channel here in New Orleans!)
