Stupid me having ESPN Classic, but also having a job, and NOT having a PVR Card that works with Digital Cable...

It's Herb Abrams UWF.  The same shows that aired on the SportsChannel network.  Last night's main event was Ivan Koloff vs Nikita Koloff.  And yes it is two - 1/2 hour shows each week night on ESPN Classic at Midnight ET.

UWF has been airing on ESPN Classic Canada for a number of years now, I guess the American station has only recently been picking it up. The Canadian ESPN Classic also shows USWA as well as a few other organizations.

I'll be happy when ECW '94-96 gets televised again, because not having OnDemand...

*looks at his cable line up*

-- Starting on Wednesday, February 27, reruns of the UWF will be replaced by episodes of the original AWA.

When they show the Col. DeBeers shoving Jimmy Snuka to the unpadded concrete floor off the top rope spot at the Showboat in Vegas match, I'll be marking out like a five year old with cotton candy.  That was some serious heel heat that the racist character DeBeers got for calling Snuka an "underachiever" for weeks.  And Snuka did a pretty wicked blade job on that one too.

I love ESPN Classic for bringing back the rasslin.  They used to have it back when it was Classic Sports before the Disney Mouse got control of the network.  And it was only on Saturday and Sunday mornings... now it's on EVERY week night... and on top of that, there are some pretty big names from some classic shows not owned by WWE on the shows.  I'm guessing it's doing fairly well in the ratings for them to actually bust out the AWA library.

So how much did they have to pay WWE to get the rights to said AWA library?

And, again: When's 94-97 ECW making a comeback? :-P
Rick GarrardPosted on 02/15/08 at 03:25:55

its probably the shows that are co-owned by ESPN since most of the old "Monday at 4pm ET" ESPN shows were "produced by the AWA in association with ESPN", thusly giving ESPN as much possession of the programming that aired on ESPN as Verne Gagne.  I believe WWE only fully owns the actual AWA tape library which consisted of the Winnepeg tapings for Canada and the Rochester, Minnesota tapings for the US.  If not mistaken the WWE co-owns with ESPN anything that was aired on the AWA All-Star Wrestling program that was an ESPN exclusive program and not an AWA syndicated product.

All I know is that it will be great to hear Lord James Blears with Rod Trongard, who were later replaced by Larry Nelson.  All good at selling the in ring product from Bangkok to Bangor, from Taiwan to Tokyo, this is the AWA, the Major League of Professional Wrestling.  :)
