Anyone else think that this is a really cool angle?

It seems to have a lot of potential & intrigue. I'd loveto see the actual videos that have been shown.
Rick GarrardPosted on 08/12/07 at 15:21:09

so when exactly did ROH join the NWA?  ;)

seems like Brent Albright is the only one of the remaining 4 guys in the NWA World Title tourney not associated with ROH... yet (or has he worked there too?).

Cause Claudio is, American Dragon is, and now so is Adam Pearce apparently.

As for viral marketing of the Project 161, this is some of the stuff that Gabe and several of us used to discuss over at AOL's Grandstand Wrestling section about 8 years ago, back when Gabe was just a fanboy of ECW.  Interesting how he's finally getting to implement some of his thoughts and ideas into a real life wrestling company.

They're doing it right, though. The "who's in it?" speculation is reminiscent of early nWo.

Brent Albright has been in ROH since Autumn of 2006 - he's known there as "The Gun For Hire" Brent Albright, and has basically acted as a hired heavy for most of the heels in the company at one point or another.  ROH actually snatched him up very soon after WWE released him, and he's one of the dozen or so ROH workers under written contract, from my understanding.

As for the background on the viral marketing gimmick, that's actually really cool.  I keep forgetting that you ran in those circles back then because ECW seems very different than the sort of oldschool promotions you usually run.

It looks pretty obvious that this is the start of a new stable, and I'd tend to agree with the guess that Adam Pearce and BJ Whitmer are most likely involved - this certainly fits in with the (very well done) promo Pearce cut at Respect is Earned.  Any insight on where Gabe is likely to take this, Rick?

I seem to remember speculating that ROH would end up with the NWA Title not that long ago ;->

(And yes, Rick is old... er, I mean Old School ;->)
The EmpressPosted on 08/14/07 at 00:12:54

I wish I could get a job booking for a wrestling promotion.  I know I'd do a good job if I got the chance.
Critic of the DawnPosted on 08/14/07 at 05:53:47

Anubress, if you get a job booking a wrestling company, and if it actually becomes a major success based on your skills, I guaran-damn-tee that I will eat my hat.

LOL

First off, Anubis or Empress will do.  Doesn't matter either way.

Second, I would love to see you eat that hat.  The hard part is getting the job.  The second hard part would be getting allowed creative freedom; this makes a big difference, if I have a Vince McMahon second-guessing every booking decision, I can't get anything done.  I basically need to have full creative power.  Still, if that were to ever happen, I would make you eat that hat, and I'd make you do it on television, hahaha!
CrplsPosted on 08/14/07 at 09:32:00

Even in your delusional world where you are a supergenius when it comes to booking, you'd still have to deal with the wrestlers and also the fans not loving everything you do.

I dunno who you are or why you have a beef with me, but you're a real asshole, you know that?  We were having a nice and fun conversation until you decided to interject your big mouth.
CrplsPosted on 08/14/07 at 09:44:47

Uh... lolol.

I mean, I am a real asshole, especially to you, but how do you get it from *that* specific statement? Like, that's just a fact. You seem to think booking wrestling is somehow easy because you can do it in TNM with no problems.

Well that's the first hostile thing I've seen from you. I honestly don't know what the reasoning is.

Actually, I don't think it's easy, I just think I could do it easily, and it's not because of TNM or TEW, but because I've got a very creative mind that is great for compelling and logical storytelling.
CrplsPosted on 08/14/07 at 09:55:59

Everything I have ever said to you has pretty much been hostile. Or encouraging you to see hella shrinks.

I sort of wish you would get hired as a booker by some promotion because a dose of reality would probably serve you well.
The EmpressPosted on 08/14/07 at 10:28:41

And what pray tell makes you think I would suck so much as a booker?  What pray tell do you think I lack?
Critic of the DawnPosted on 08/15/07 at 03:11:04

SO ANYWAY.

Project 161.  Any more speculation, anyone?  ;D

Anubis, to put what Chris is saying nicely, I don't think you really appreciate how hard being a booker would be. Have you ever been in some type of managerial position?

Trying to appease your wrestlers, your casual fans, your IWC, all while turning a profit is damn near impossible. Vince doesn't do it alone, Dusty Rhodes didn't do it alone, Cornette didn't do it alone, and Heyman didn't do it alone. Those 4 men have like 200 years expierience in the wrestling world, and they wouldn't make it by themselves.

Amen, brother!

Vince doesn't do it alone
He used Pat Patterson, Gorilla Monsoon, Vince Russo, Ed Ferrera, Stephanie, Gewitz, Paul Heyman, Jim Cornette, Michael Hayes, Dusty Rhodes and a long list of others to help book.

Dusty Rhodes didn't do it alone
Neither did Ric Flair when he had the NWA Crockett book

Cornette didn't do it alone
He had Les Thatcher and the Armstrongs

Heyman didn't do it alone
Raven, Dreamer, Douglas and BuhBuh Ray Dudley did a LOT of ECW's booking with Paul steering it.

Those 4 men have like 200 years expierience in the wrestling world, and they wouldn't make it by themselves.
Exactly.  Don't piss off people on the way up, or they'll piss on you on the way back down.
The EmpressPosted on 08/15/07 at 07:27:18

I never said I could do it "by myself".  The money side of things, I would leave that to someone with money experience.  PR and such, I would appoint proper people.  The part that I believe I would be good at it the writing, the creative, the general job of the guy with the book.  That guy doesn't do all that other stuff, there are other people in those positions.  I'm not implying anything so insane as "I could single handedly run, promote, and manage a wrestling promotion corporation."  No, I just think I'd be good "with the book" as it were.  So long as I have the final say in creative (McMahon was a fool not to leave ECW creative solely 100% in the hands of Heyman since Heyman is like the best booker ever), that's what I believe I would be good at.  Absolutely without a doubt ten times better than Vince Russo to be sure!  Not sure if casuals would dig it, since I would focus more on in-ring product (which means my product would be more akin to ROH's in a way, though I would have a little more storyline than them though far more wrestling than WWE), but I do think I could accomplish my goals.
Zedja - TNMWA ChampionPosted on 08/17/07 at 07:58:46

No offense Empress, but I've seen some of your bookings and quite frankly most of it was boring. Sorry.

As for the 161 it looks interesting, but hopefully it won't be a dud when the final conclusion comes around. Hopefully it's someone fresh.

Certainly you know that something of this nature written down doesn't play out as exciting as it would in real life, right?  Especially given that I used people you know in roles you're not used to seeing them in.  In reality, if you would see it all play out and lead up to it, then it would work, but it's understandable that it's hard to connect with it just being written down.

You see, I'm the first to admit that while I am a compelling storyteller, I have a hard time with communication.
CrplsPosted on 08/17/07 at 23:14:06

Are you removing your penis as part of this "process"? Because it will be odd to see you not sucking on it for all of eternity.

King MunshunPosted on 08/17/07 at 23:31:23

I wish I could get a job playing video games professionally. I bet I'd be really good at it.
pszPosted on 08/18/07 at 00:49:13

Nah. You'd get pwned by all the l33t Halo 3 fanboys, and Gran Tourismo 5 junkies.
C-R-P-L-SPosted on 09/16/07 at 08:29:07

Jacobs being involved makes me interested.

rebelinsPosted on 09/21/07 at 04:57:53

After watching the video it was definitely pretty sweet.  Jacobs rules and anything with NECRO!!! rules.  Should be interesting to see how it all plays out.
Critic of the DawnPosted on 09/22/07 at 05:42:42

I still think Necro Butcher looks like a hobo who wandered in off the streets...

Eric "Critic of the Dawn"
rebelinsPosted on 09/22/07 at 06:26:27

He definitely looks like a hobo but he's a very good worker in his style and can hang with the flippy floppy guys and the hard-hitting strikers.
