Rick GarrardPosted on 08/27/07 at 15:17:17

Septempber 1, 2007 in IWA Puerto Rico, American Dragon Bryan Danielson takes on Brent Albright for the the NWA World Title.

Wasn't Danielson the one everyone said would win it at the start? Yeah, I'll say Albright to take it all.

That would be a good way to stick it to WWE.

Danielson hurt his eye at the last ROH show so I hope they don't cancel the match.  Maybe they can postpone it until he's better because he definitely needs to be healthy before causing permanent damage.

"Bryan saw an eye specialist today and it was found that he had a detached retina. He had laser surgery today where they re-attached the retina and tightened the muscles surrounding the eye. The reason his eye couldn't come down after the match was because the muscle was loosened. It's an outpatient surgery, so he was released today after having surgery this morning. The surgery went well, and there's a 90% he will regain vision, although it may be blurred.

It is recommended he take 4-6 weeks off. He will have a check up next week and the week after to check on his progress. I promise you all that we will not rush Bryan back."

Ouch.

Poor Danielson.
Rick GarrardPosted on 08/28/07 at 08:02:58

Albright the new NWA World Champ then this weekend? Or is the whole detached retina thing a swerve from RoH?

edit:Not a swerve afterall perhaps.  nwawrestling.com reporting the surgery as well and stating that due to the surgery the first ever meeting between Danielson and Albright will have to wait, but that Scrap Iron Adam Pearce will now face Albright.  Just give Pearce the title already and be done with it.  :)

Wonder if the tag champs are defending on the island as well?
BULLYPosted on 09/02/07 at 07:30:13

Pearce is the champ.
Rick GarrardPosted on 09/02/07 at 08:01:41

So does he keep the NWA Pro Heritage Title as well since he's the World Champ?

My initial prediction was 'the guy who wasn't the favourite' so in keeping with that, yeah I was right.
Rick GarrardPosted on 09/02/07 at 22:49:55

he's the best talker of the tourney... see his youtube clips for proof of this.

In the ring, he's solid, nothing flashy, but a decent worker that can get a good match working a variety of styles from opponents.  He's exactly what the NWA needs as it's travelling champion.

I've talked this over with Rick, and I'd tend to agree.  Danielson was my first choice, but since injury is preventing that, Adam Pearce would be the NWA's best bet if they're trying the rebuild themselves in a serious way.  He's a great talker and a decent worker, plus he's been in the business for quite a few years, so working with him could be a positive influence to a large number of young wrestlers.

On another note, ROH has announced that Bryan Danielson, two weeks after suffering his eye injury against Takeshi Morishima, will be facing Morishima again at this weekend's PPV taping - never mind the fact that Danielson hasn't been cleared to wrestle yet and that the doctors recommended another month off at least.
Oh, wrestlers.
Critic of the DawnPosted on 09/13/07 at 05:17:05

As documented in the latest ROH Video Wire, Bryan Danielson suffered a serious eye injury against Morishima during their 8/25 bout in Manhattan and needed emergency surgery. Danielson's doctor told him yesterday that he is recovering quickly and that he will probably be able to wrestle this weekend. Danielson will have one more check up tomorrow just to make sure.

Odd.  This kinda makes it sound like he's been cleared, actually.  I just hope he's careful.  Blind Bryan Danielson is the last thing that anyone wants.
