New ROH Tag Team Champions

SporadicoPosted on 11/26/06 at 06:50:54

The Kings of Wrestling lost the ROH tag team titles after the match of the night against Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal. Sydal pulled off one of the most insane looking things I've ever seen in wrestling... Claudio was about to do a powerbomb to Sydal, Claudio propped Sydal up so Sydal was standing on Claudio's shoulders and pulled off one of the sexiest DDT's in a while.

I'm assuming this means Claudio is headed to WWE's development territories soon, it's the only reason I can think of where the Kings Of Wrestling would be loosing the belts all over the place.

He's supposed to report to one of the developmental systems sometime after January 1st.

Rats. Scooped on Ring of Honor. How humiliating. ;)

Seriously, though. I was waiting for an official mention of it on one of the dirtsheets so I could quote them. And it literally came in just a few minutes ago. So...

Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal defeated Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero to capture the ROH Tag Team championships in Edison, New Jersey last night. The change wasn't unexpected since Castagnoli will report to a WWE developmental territory after the New Year. Chris Hero will be remaining with ROH. We'll have a full report from the Edison show later today.

Castagnoli is a good hand, and has the size and charisma to do well in the WWE. Best of luck to him. And congratulations to the new ROH World Tag Team Champions. I believe this makes Daniels a 2 Time Tag Team Champion, and Sydal's year of being a tag team whore has finally paid off.

I find it interesting that one of the new tag team champions is one of TNA's top talents. This, to me, means one of two things. Either the relationship between ROH and TNA is extremely strong at the moment, or Daniels and Sydal are going to be transitional champions. With Homicide looking likely to take the ROH World Title at Final Battle 2006, this would put both of Ring of Honor's Titles in the hands of TNA talent. TNA's talent has been fully re-integrated for a year and a half now, but ROH has been making a noticable effort to maintain a roster which is mostly not under TNA contract.

Thoughts anyone?

So... what's next for Hero? Does he stay is the tag team picture and team up w/ someone like Rave or go for the ROH World Title?
Critic of the DawnPosted on 11/28/06 at 06:09:48

A team with Jimmy Rave would be lots of fun, yes.  But ROH just banned the throwing of Toilet Paper... and Chris Hero and Jimmy Rave teaming together would get so much heat that it would be insane.  So...  I'm gonna say... Hero makes a run for the Homicide's newly won ROH World Title early in 2007 while Jimmy Rave turns face and totally flops at it because he's such a wonderful heel.

Rave and Hero teams up and can't decide whether to call it the Embassy or Kings of Wrestling.

I think ROH has learned from Expect the Unexpected situation that it is not wise to book a show on a TNA PPV weekend. If they can avoid that, there won't be any major hazzle with TNA. TNA is still many months (even years) away from having TNA-exclusive wrestlers onboard.
