Warrior vs Goldberg in TNA?

UnrightPosted on 02/26/06 at 06:09:43

Here's some ramblings from Warrior's website.

"[Sting] also mentioned in the press conference that Ultimate Warrior coming to TNA would be interesting. Yes, I have to agree -- it would be very interesting. What would be more interesting is if the TNA execs had the creativity, integrity and balls to entertain it seriously. Frankly, what they should do, if they want to be competitive (there's that nasty blood, sweat and tears word again), is sell some of those construction materials Daddy Jarrett has laying around, and put up the financing to bring in Goldberg and Ultimate Warrior and let us try to beat the intensity out of one another.

Now there's an idea -- an attention getting one, and a money making one. I mean, instead of always using "warrior" as the adjective to fallaciously describe all those who aren't -- bring a real, and Ultimate, one in. Let the hardcore, natural intensity rip. Let both of us take our mischaracterized heads halfway out of our asses, just enough for us to be businessmen capable of discussing the serious potential success yet not enough to defuse a competitive grudge, and let the serious and creative thinkers at TNA, those without an agenda or envy problem, work out a program.

Put your silly a** fear and prejudice for my strong, bold character away and think SUCCESS. Hell, I'm all for great ideas. But don't expect me to keep my mouth shut when you don't come up with any. Of course, as I hinted at, it won't be inexpensive. Goldberg has an agent and has to give him a cut. I'm my own and I charge even more. The bigger obstacle, and definitely the one that has us both the most hated in the industry, is that we are strong individualists who don't need, or even necessarily want, to be in the business and can get along having great lives without it. But, what a way it would be for the most envied and despised to shove the final word down the throats of those Nor'Easterners, while TNA capitalizes off the incredible heat of it all."

The bolding is mine. Bastard just wants money. A Warrior vs Goldberg match in TNA has got to be the stupidest idea I ever heard of. Is Warrior ever going to realize what a joke he is?

I dunno, I wouldn't mind seeing it just so I can see the look on Warrior's face when Goldberg makes his no-selling ass sell the Spear and Jackhammer.

Goldberg would make Warrior sell it because well, he doesn't know how to protect his opponents anyway. :)

I dislike both men from a wrestling standpoint, but sadly, if done right, it would draw.

The Ultimate Warrior legally changed his name to "Warrior Warrior"... ummm... yeah...

and we all know my feelings on Goldberg.

Unfortunately it'd probably make TNA some money and it would attrack attention.  Would it be good?  Hell no.  But wrestling doesnt have to be good anymore, it just has to be profitable.  There aren't enough people who know what good wrestling is.  No i don't mean Benoit vs. Dynamite Kid in the technical dream match of the century, i mean good workers working good workers and telling a good story.  But hey, why have it make sense when guys can trade meaningless flips for 10 minutes, right?  I mean, it's not like they're capable of telling a story... oh wait they are... well, whatever, talk to the hand.

I doubt the match would even be able to be seen by anyone since both their egos would fill out the arena so that nobody else could fit.
AnubisPosted on 02/26/06 at 11:20:48

Well we all know I like Goldberg. Not the best ring worker, but like Undertaker, he has a gimmick that gets him over just fine.

Warrior, well . . . Ah . . . Well, it would draw for sure . . . It COULD work, but would require a) good writing from TNA, b) cooperation from Goldberg, c) cooperation from Warrior, and d) no Jeff Jarrett.

. . .

..........

... hmmmmmmmmmm ...

Never mind, it'll never happen.  Given that they both hate losing and they both hate selling, the match would turn into a contest of who could get kicked in the nuts the most times without going down while Jarrett stands by calling them both "slapnuts".

maybe Goldberg could kick Warrior in the head like he did Bret Hart?

Maybe that would make Warrior nice? Nah... There's NO cure for that guy...

Really? I mean, if TNA brought in both men at a high cost it would be for a month, maybe 2 month long feud at most. Then both would vanish.

I guess the thinking is that all the casual wrestling fans would tune in out of interest in that feud and hopefully would be so impressed with the rest of TNA that they would watch it regularly.

Of course that depends on whether or not Warrior & Goldberg still have drawing power and can actually work together. Both men were super-over in their time because their both had "indestructible" gimmicks. But as previously mentioned, their egos are so large that I don't think their could even map out a wrestling plan.

I think the pay-off would be worth it. But Warrior had a comeback once in WCW and it was so awful that I don't think it should ever be attempted again. Bringing in Goldberg for a short one-time feud with someone else (Sting?) would be a better idea.

Warrior should never step foot in a wrestling ring again.

A Warrior vs. Goldberg program would probably draw the hatred of countless TNA fans who are already sick enough of Jeff Jarrett putzing around the ring, and don't want to see two terrible workers with massive egos go at it when they could be watching, I dunno, Samoa Joe vs. Christopher Daniels for the 500 billionth time, or some shit. But that's not to say the program wouldn't draw -- it would draw in all SORTS of more casual wrestling fans who might not be interested in TNA right now. It could, quite possibly, generate a hell of a lot of buzz for TNA, and as a bonus to them, totally one-up WWE in its current quest to give the fans never-before-seen matches between legendary superstars. Though TNA wouldn't be able to call them superstars. Heh.

I don't even think the match would be so bad. Goldberg and Warrior, despite their reputations, ARE capable of selling. And they'd be able to plan out some spots, maybe have a few practice matches not seen by fans, get used to each other's in-ring styles and put on a passable match. And again, despite their reputations, both guys are willing to do the job on occasion. I'd see Goldberg going over in this match, because as much of a fuckwad as Warrior is, I don't doubt that he'd be willing to do the job for Goldberg under the right circumstances. He may deny it, but Warrior HAS to see something in Goldberg that reminds him of himself when he was younger and didn't hate basically everything in the world.

'Course, no way in hell could TNA afford to bring these guys in right now, or anytime in the near future, and I doubt they'd be willing to cave to what I imagine will be extremely unreasonable promo time demands by Warrior. But it's not the worst idea Warrior has ever come up with.
