SAY mah name, baby! Prime Time!

AllPowerfulGARTHPosted on 02/03/06 at 01:06:05

TNA is going primetime, I hear. On either Mondays or Thursdays. TNA would prefer Monday, but Spike is leaning more toward Thursday, so they can pair it up with whatever UFC show it is they have on Thursdays.

I don't watch TNA, but if it were on at a reasonable hour (read: an hour where I'm apt to be awake, sober and in need of amusement), I'd damn sure start. And I imagine a lot of other wrestling fans like me would do the same.

So, discuss.

I'd prefer Wednesday myself.  I already have a ton of shows I watch on Monday and Thursday.  Both would be a disaster in primetime.  On Monday, they'd be competing with RAW, and on Thursday, they'd be competing with NBC's knockout lineup.  Both are bad ideas in primetime.

Wednesday primetime or Thursday later on (say 11 PM Central) would be best.

Does this mean that TNA has to pay MORE to be on TV now?  And aren't they still giving all the tickets away for free for their Orlando shows?  Does TNA get a portion of ad revenues from the prime time deal?  They must really hope that PPV revenues go up and that merchandise sales go up as well to offset their costs.  They really need to start touring, even if it is only one or two shows a week in the Florida area just to bring in some ticket sales revenues.

They supposedly have a house show scheduled for this month in Cleveland or something.
I think it's a positive that Spike TV thinks enough of TNA to put them on a weekday primetime slot.  It can only help them in the long run.  Thursday night is a night that wrestling fans are used to watching shows on as well, with Smackdown and, before that, to a lesser extent, Thunder.

and prior to Thunder, WCW/NWA Clash of Champions and prior to that WWF's Thursday Night Titans.

And Wednesday has effing Lost. Thursday works for me.
AnubisPosted on 02/07/06 at 22:43:03

Lost isn't anywhere near the competition of RAW or NBC Must See TV Thursday.  Monday or Thursday would be disastrous for TNA and Friday is a natural ratings-killer (just ask Dark Angel, which lost half its ratings when moved to Friday and got cancelled because of it).  That leaves Tuesday and Wednesday.  Tuesday might be bad because of American Idol (I hate that show, I can't figure out what people like about it), so that actually naturally leaves Wednesday as the night with the least competition.  I love TNA, but I don't think they're ready for stiff primetime competition from WWE or NBC, no way.
Rick GarrardPosted on 02/08/06 at 01:42:18

the first few weeks of Idol (the tryout parts) are just a cheap ripoff of the Gong Show minus the Gong and JP Morgan.  It's your basic car wreck television.  i.e. so horrific you don't want to look, but once you do, you can't turn away.

TNA held a press conference with their workers today(2/6/2--6) to announce that Impact will be moving to Thursdays at 9PM ET on April 13th. The big news from the conference is that Impact will still hold on to their current Saturday timeslot with the replay airing then. No word on what will happen to the current Monday replay slot.

It's gonna be really funny in a few years when we find out that in Japan, they have overdubbed TNA and made it into their own version of MXC in a talent exchange with Spike TV.  ;)  In fact, that's probably the show that will get the old Impact Monday slot.  Babaganoosh !!!!
