Christian's push over before it starts? *Spoilers*

americamamushiPosted on 12/11/05 at 00:18:21

It does appear as if TNA will announce tomorrow on the Turning Point PPV that they have signed Sting to a full-time contract.

Sting will be the highest paid wrestler in the company and will be the center focus for the next year or so.

If TNA had plans to push Christian to the main event that may have just been destroyed by the fact that they have signed Sting.  While Sting could be a really, really good thing for TNA right now... I have a bad feeling if TNA had big plans for Christian Cage, he's gonna get shoved to the back burner again for a really long term Sting/Jarrett feud.

It makes sense though that if they have Sting that they'd make him the main focus - after all, right now they need to be grabbing the attention of the mainstream wrestling public anyway they can, and Sting would be the best way.

Still, it's not all doom and gloom for Christian. He'd still be one of the biggest names they have (Jarrett and Nash if they still have him are the only ones that really compare) and after a year, bearing in mind Sting may not be long-long-long term for obvious reasons, he may well be the person to step up. So they can keep him warm, perhaps in the X-Division, filtering him into the main when one or both of Sting and Jarrett aren't headlining, since they can't be the only two guys who'll main event PPV's for the next year and he may get his chance sooner rather than later.

Fret ye not.

Rumor has it that Sting has been brought in to fight with Raven, not Jarrett.

Either way, Christian can win the X-division title, and still look strong. Daniels and Styles have both been doing it a while. Either way, Sting can NOT hurt to have around...maybe even in a mentoring roll.

I'd still expect Christian to get the title before the end of next year. Sting is the kind of guy who doesn't really need the title, though who might hold it for a brief while. None of that's really important though. The money match is Samoa Joe vs Rhino/Sting/Christian.

I could see them putting the title on Sting to help boost their ratings and the buzz around TNA, keep it on him for a bit, and then have him drop it to someone they want to become big for their future.  Possibly doing that a few times.

I just fear the worst for Christian is all ;)

I look at the situation, and really, the only thing that comes to mind is this:

Sting > Christian Cage

Sting is just plain superior, unless he's lost half his talent since his WCW days, which I doubt.

One thing I don't like, though, is how the news sheets claim that Sting was rumored to be "in it for the money".  I can't be the only one to find this ridiculous.  If Sting was in it for the money, he'd go get a multi-million dollar contract from Vince McMahon, not get paid a fourth of his old WCW salary in an up-and-coming promotion.  Sting is a good worker and he's a good human being, straight up.  If there is one honorable man in the whole business, it'd be Sting.

That said, although Christian Cage is more entertaining than his WWE days, I just don't buy him as a main eventer.  He's just missing that intangible something that keeps him below guys like Sting, A.J. Styles, Samoa Joe (who I could absolutely buy in the main event), or even Jeff Jarrett (I gotta admit, he's committed, you can tell he cares about his matches; I don't like him or his attitude, but I respect his hard work).

On a side note, Turning Point was a FANTASTIC PPV.  I didn't see any real flaws, and they even put a good cool-down match after the Barbed Wire Massacre.  Glad Jarrett retained, nice Sting teaser, great A.J./Joe match that stole the show, everything was just about perfect.  Definitely better than anything WWE has put out since Summerslam a couple years ago (with the street fight between HHH and HBK).

I can see Sting v Christian *DOWN THE ROAD* as a decent rivalry, maybe even champ-swaping.

As has been said (by damn near everyone ;->), AT THE MOMENT Sting is just the OBVIOUS next major player in TNA. Period.

I like Rhino. Not a main eventer anymore.

I like Christian. Not a main eventer yet.

I like Raven. Spike/TNA's just not really.... Showing him off well.

That leaves JJ *whine* and Sting. For now.

So, based on the TNA Impact spoilers from last night, things don't look too glum for Christian just yet.

Sting doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would pull a Hogan trying to hold the younger guys down in order to hold onto his spotlight... I mean, he has been out of said spotlight for several years now.  I absolutely love Christian and honestly figure he'll just benefit from this situation if anything... as long as TNA gives him a chance to shine alongside the Stinger instead of shoving Sting v. Jarrett down our throats month-after-month like they're nuts about doing right now with JJ and Rhyno.

But as long as Sting's giving Christian the rub, which I can only imagine he'll do time and time again, I see no reason to fret.

...and besides, anything that potentially brings a baseball bat in close contact with Jeff Jarrett's skull is totally sizz with me  :P

I agree with you, 91
