Best of TNA Disc

rey619Posted on 11/29/05 at 13:11:44

I'm editing a tape of TNAs best matches for a "WWE-only" friend of mine, and want to know what matches I should put in it. Here's my list so far (I want to limit it to max 10 matches).

In no particular order..

1. Jeff Jarrett & AMW vs Rhino & Team 3D (Sacrifice)
2. Monster's Ball 2 (Bound for Glory)*
3. Samoa Joe vs AJ Styles vs Daniels - X Title (Unbreakable)
4. King of the Mountain 2 (Slammiversary)**
5. Daniels vs Styles - Iron Man 1 (Against All Odds)
6. Styles vs Williams vs Sabin - Ultimate X (Final Resolution)
7. AMW vs Triple X - Six Sides of Steel (Turning Point 04)

I also want to put in a match with Strong/Aries/Shelley.. maybe Elimination X from Sacrifice or the Strong vs Aries match from... ??

I could have put Styles and Joe matches throughout the whole disc, but want to show him a varied selection. I could probably also use something with the 3LK and Team Canada, but am not sure what match sticks out.

* I know this probably shouldn't be on the list in terms of pure wrestling quality, but I wanted to include a hardcore match as well, including an ultimate leap of doom by Hardy. Also, I wanted to include a Monty Brown match, and most of his single matches aren't all that.

** As this is a trademark match of TNA, I felt I had to include it.

Hey, I'm always a fan of Ultimate X action personally, so I'd probably end up with half a disc of that ;->

(Your millage may vary, of course)

I just picked up a Best of TNA X Division Vol. 1 DVD the other day. That's probably the best "Best of TNA" you can pick up commercially.

You should include at least one match from when they were at the Nashville Arena and another from the Nashville Fairgrounds.  Perhaps from the early days a match of Jerry Lynn vs AJ Styles?   And maybe an early AMW vs Harris twins match or something?  And you should really include the Brian Lawler meltdown where he punks out his dad, the King.

If you want him to appreciate it for great wrestling, show some X-division and such.

If you want to show him that he may like it, if he got into it, show more former WWE guys.
Rick GarrardPosted on 11/30/05 at 05:39:06

Or you could go for the insomnia cure and show only the "Very Best of Kevin Nash".  ;)
rey619Posted on 11/30/05 at 08:38:11

I want him to enjoy the product as it is now, so I don't think I will include matches from the Asylum period (also to do with availability..)

If I show him only the X-Division, I think he will get an unfair picture of TNA as a whole.. even though I suspect the majority of matches will be with Styles, Daniels and Joe.

I would suggest that you put Scott D'Amore versus Jerry Lynn on there, if anything to show that even the managers can wrestle better than half the WWE roster.  I can't remember what event it was on, though.
Rick GarrardPosted on 12/01/05 at 02:46:32

Last I checked, D'Amore was once a WWE jobber and runs Border City Wrestling in his spare time.  And Jerry Lynn is not just any manager.  He was the human highlight reel of TNA for the first year with AJ Styles.  Not to mention Lynn also had a very good feud with RVD in ECW.  These two are not the prototypical manager, although they should be.  ;)
AnubisPosted on 12/01/05 at 21:13:41

The manager part was mostly aimed at Scott D'Amore.  When I first heard of that much, I was like "WTF, c'mon, let's not have garbage manager matches.  I fully expect Jerry Lynn to take him to school.

Then I saw the match, and I about shit myself at how good a wrestler Scott D'Amore was.  Like I said, better than half the WWE roster, and not just in the ring, but on the mic and ring psychology as well.  He did just as well in the ring with Jerry Lynn as RVD did, more or less.
Rick GarrardPosted on 12/02/05 at 02:47:47

Showing that you know very little about wrestling history, D'Amore was on just about every episode of either WWF Challenge or Superstars of Wrestling back when it was still in syndication in the US (it's pre-USA Network days).

You can argue all the crazy stuff you want, but don't argue 80's wrestling with me, Anubis.

I was arguing?  I thought I was praising Scott D'Amore.

As for wrestling history, well, you said he was a jobber, and quite honestly, there's no way I would remember jobbers from the 80s now.  That was like almost two decades ago, good grief.

Still, I could have sworn I was praising Scott D'Amore and not arguing the 80s.

*goes and looks*

Yep, I was praising Scott D'Amore.  There was no argument with you in there.

I think what Rick was saying was that to imply that the WWE is awful because even the TNA managers make better wrestlers is a redundant point to make when said manager is himself a well respected wrestler anyway.

It'd be like saying that the time Kurt Angle was GM of Smackdown proved the WWE was the greatest promotion ever because even their officials are better wrestlers than 99 to 100% of the rosters of every other fed in the world.

Now if TNA were to hire, say, Jimmy Hart, and they threw him in the ring and he showed himself to be better than WWE wrestlers, THEN the point would be valid.

Fonzie would blade, hit a gusher and out would come beer from his forehead and not blood.   ;)
