TNA, the NWA titles and the year 2014...

americamamushiPosted on 10/13/05 at 01:34:57

I know it's a ways into the future yet, but still, it's a discussion and there don't seem to be a whole lot at the moment.

After breaking off from the NWA, they agreed that TNA was allowed to use the NWA belts untill 2014.  When 2014 rolls around what will TNA do?  If they don't end up making it nationally this is a moot point probably.  But if they do make it on the national scene (or global scene by that time maybe) how would suddenly changing the titles hurt them?  Do you think they could/would try and just subtly transition over?  Or make a big deal about it?  Discuss.

First, I'm under the impression that TNA is still a member of the NWA... but that they just don't mention it very much any more.  I suppose it's possible that changed while I wasn't paying attention, though - if so, can you link me to an article?  That said, if TNA hasn't dropped out of the NWA by 2014, I'll be very surprised.

If, however, they have not, and if TNA is a nationally televised wrestling promotion at that point, I expect that the NWA will renew the contract because without it they're just a bunch of low budget mostly southern indy feds.

TNA left the NWA in 2004.  Where have you been? ;)  They just made a deal with NWA to keep using their world and tag belts untill 2014.  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TNA)  Of course, if TNA is huge by that time NWA might allow them to keep using the belts to help garner some popularity for the various NWA organizations around the country.  I mean, can you imagine John Cena or Batista defending their title at OVW or Deep South?  It's a little different since those are developemental, but still, you get the idea.

Actually the WWF used to send the IC champ to the USWA on occasion to the defend the IC Title, when Lawler's USWA was the WWF's minor league.  It was also where heel Mr. McMahon debuted almost 2 years prior to being heel on camera in the WWF.

How many people really NOTICED when NWA's title became WCW's? (Espeically since they used the same design, and WWE's using it for the World Title belt)

I remember a Nitro or two where Bischoff (Pre-Evil GM mode) was talking with Teny about the history and lineage of the WCW Title, going back to "When it was called the NWA World Title" or somesuch. They just kept acting like it was the one and only (This was, funnilly enough, around the same time that Dan Severn and company showed up on WWE with the "actual" NWA World Title)

By 2014, I doubt most people will remember that TNA is or was part of the NWA. They'll just start referring to it as the TNA World title more and more over time.

Will even TNA be alive in 2014??

Well of course this is all speculation going from the assumption that both TNA as well as NWA are around by 2014 ;->

Actually it was a good four and a half years.

That's it, I need to get out more.
