TNA: The Video Game...

americamamushiPosted on 11/19/04 at 22:53:48

So... how long does everyone think it'll take for them to get a video game?

I'd say they might have one out by at least christmas next year.

They still have to be around by then for THAT to happen.  I wonder when Panda Energy will pull it's funding from it?  Or if they still have a Universal Studios deal by then, considering technically Universal may be in "breach of contract" by allowing WWE to film on their grounds, while TNA is their own in-house wrestling company.  Or if Fox Sports Net will relegate them to a "worse" time slot like 1am on Saturdays, which in reality would only help viewership not hurt it.

Or if the whole WWE vs TNA Royal Rumble production was a work.  ;)  explain to me why WWE full well knowing that TNA is based at Universal Studios would GO to Universal Studios and film a set of ads... and not just ANYWHERE at Universal Studios.. but right outside of the TNA soundstage.  Some things are WAY too coincidental with this.

CONSPIRACY THEORY! CONSPIRACY THEORY!

*buzzers go off*

*mushi grabs his foil hat*

;D

And I suppose you're going to say that WWE screwing Bret Hart was all a work too ;) [sarcasm]cause after all, there is no chance that it could have possibly been a work[/sarcasm]
Rick GarrardPosted on 11/20/04 at 05:58:51

I don't know about it ALL being a work with Hart... but a 20 year guaranteed office deal with WWE which was ONLY leaked to the internet just prior to the whole blow-up scene that made a great end for a movie that would have otherwise not had an ending at all for Hart's "Wrestling with Shadows" documentary film.

I would have called it entirely a work, but I think it ended up being more of a worked shoot that really backfired horribly for all parties except Vince as he was able to make one of the greatest heel characters of recent wrestling history out of it to face the Rattlesnake in Steve Austin.

I have my theories about it, but to explain them, would require two books the size of one of Foley's autobiographies.  And I don't really have that kind of time to write that all out.  ;)

Back on topic, I recall hearing labout a year ago that TNA and EA were working together on making a video game.  D'Lo Brown did an interview at one of the game sites promoting it.  It's obviously not out yet, but there was a lot of speculation at the time that that studio actually developing it would be AKI, who was responsible for making WWF No Mercy on the Nintendo 64, which is regarded by many as the best WWF Video Game ever produced.  I think AKI also produced the Def Jam Vendetta games.

Haven't heard anything about the game since then, however.  It's entirely possible that it's vaporware.

Ah!  No deal was actually ever signed.

Contrary to rumours, a deal has not been reached between NWA-TNA and Electronic Arts' sports division to produce a game for the fledgling wrestling company, though there have been talks.

In an exclusive interview, EA Sports Public Relations Coordinator Jennifer Gonzalez told SLAM! Wrestling that no deal has been set between the two parties, while confirming that there has been discussion between the two sides. "EA is currently not working on a wrestling game," Gonzalez said. "Apparently we have had conversations with TNA but there is nothing in the works."

Much of the speculation for an NWA-TNA game originated last week from an article that appeared on IGN's site. IGN, known as one of the top video gaming sites, stated in an interview with NWA-TNA star D'Lo Brown that the company is, "currently in negotiations with several video game companies, including Electronic Arts, to produce the first virtual beatdown in TNA history."

In an interview with IGN, D-Lo Brown seemed to indicate that a deal had been done with EA Sports. "It's EA Sports, it doesn't get any bigger than EA Sports in the world of video games. The fact that we've now signed on with them, that's only going to bring TNA to the forefront and bring us to a higher level," he said. "You know what, I'm jacked. I've been in about four or five video games, but this one has a different feeling around it. It seems a little different. I'm really excited to be a part of the process."

Speculation as to EA Sports's involvement in the game was further fuelled by the fact that the company has produced wrestling games in the past. Toward the end of World Championship Wrestling, the company had a contract with EA Sports. Among the games produced was WCW Mayhem. As well, EA Sports, through their sub-brand EA Sports Big, had produced the game Def Jam Vendetta.

No other video game companies, at this time, had been named as being in negotiations with NWA-TNA.

Perhaps they can buy the rights to the original NES WCW game.  ;)

Or maybe even DataEast's Tag Team wrestling game for the PC..

where in a TNA version you could only play as Jeff Jarrett and whichever guy they put him with vs Hall and Nash.

Or perhaps they can get the good ol' Bop N Wrestle game and rename the title character to Jeff Jarrett.  ;)
