Mick Foley booked for Ring of Honor

Critic of the DawnPosted on 07/18/04 at 04:50:17

According to PWInsider, Mick Foley has been booked for Ring of Honor's 9/11 show at the Rexplex in Elizabeth, NJ.  Although he most likely won't wrestle, Foley is one of the biggest names in the business in recent years, and unless I'm mistaken, he will be the first former WWF/E champion to appear at a Ring of Honor show (although Eddie Guerrero became a WWE champion almost exactly 2 years after first appearing at ROH).

Should be interesting to see what they do with him.  Whatever it is, he should put asses in seats, as they say.  I'm even considering a trip up to Elizabeth this September because of this.

Thoughts?

I hope Foley rips them a new one... and then announces his OWN company is forming of guys that "suck" just like he once did in the ring.  ;)

HAH!  Headlocks for everyone! ;D

Actually, considering that ROH just crowned a Pure Wrestling Champion (Doug Williams) after vacating it after TNA yanked Styles away, that'd probably get Foley over (not that he needs help).  So we want awful punchkick, then.

Let's see...  Who is free?

Perhaps a stable consisting of Mabel, Dennis Knight, and Kevin Nash?

Mmmm, Foley vs. CM Punk. That's a bloodbath waiting to happen.

Actually, I believe they just turned Punk face tonight.

Although...

Mmm...  Foley vs. Punk... ;D

Exactly, bring Foley in as a heel. Talking about when he was coming up you didn't need all this 'wrestling' junk, just something big and heavy to beat over your opponents head.
Critic of the DawnPosted on 07/18/04 at 19:00:39

Foley works great as a heel, but in all honesty I don't know that using him in that manner would be the most effective.  Foley can bring in a lot of casual fans, and when these potential new ROH fans come in, they're going to be expecting him playing the sort of face character they're used to.  It'd be better in my estimation for them to use him to give the promotion a rub to win a larger audience.  It'd be nice if they built up a feud with him against a heel like they did with Punk and Steamboat.  Perhaps the newly returned and heel turned Low Ki would work better?

I dunno, Ki needs a special type of wrestler to get a really good match out of him.

I'm not saying guys like Daniels or Styles or Joe are better overall workers than Foley, but stylistically they are able to take Ki from being a spot machine into being a wrestler.

I'm not sure if Foley would be able to do that with Ki's style.
Critic of the DawnPosted on 07/19/04 at 00:35:51

That might very well be the case.  I actually haven't seen too much ROH stuff - I own 2 DVDs thus far, and hope to go to at least one show this summer.

What about Homicide or Dan Maff?  Would either of those guys work better in your opinion?

Homicide would be really interesting. I'm not a huge huge fan of his work, but his strong style hardcore could make for a really brutal and really good match with Foley.

Maff would be a good opponent too, but he, like Punk, recently turned face.

It'd probably be best with 'Cide while Low Ki feuds with Samoa Joe for the ROH Title, then.

Or...

There's always the comedy Prince Nana option!

Or somehow get Corino back in RoH. Corin vs. Foley would be wreslting gold I think.

And I know Corino being back is a long shot, but if Ki can show back up, anything is possible.

I wish Ring of Homos would die one day. I don't care who's running it whether its pedophile Fagstein and Gay-be Shiteater, 3 good matches with quite few overrated wrestlers doesn't make a good fed.
xsouporheroxPosted on 07/31/04 at 07:42:08

Three good matches? Yeah they have some overrated talent. But they also have some real gems. And they have probably the best storylines in American pro wrestling today.
Critic of the DawnPosted on 07/31/04 at 07:53:34

3 good matches?  Buh-wha?  In each of the 3 RoH DVD's I own so far, I'd say that there's at least one match at around the ****+ level.  While a few of their wrestlers are overrated, there are just as many that consistently wrestle very solid matches.

Obviously you're entitled to your own opinion, but since I'm really big on RoH, I'm interested to know in more specific terms what about it you don't like.  How much of it have you seen?
