LillaThrilla | Posted on 08/09/07 at 03:21:29 Why do refs in Japan count to 20 in English when counting wrestlers out? And is there any particular reason they count to 20 instead of 10? |
Crpls | Posted on 08/09/07 at 03:27:28 Because wrestling was adopted from America? I don't know if there's a reason beyond that, but tons of things are done in English/Engrish in Japanese wrestling. |

Mr. Ken Kennedy | Posted on 09/23/07 at 03:52:12 They do this in lucha too. |
Rick Garrard | Posted on 09/23/07 at 03:54:32 I could be wrong, but if not mistaken, they used to count to 20 here in the US too, even in the WWWF. It wasn't until WWWF became the WWF under the TitanSports banner where the 20 turned to a 10 countout for all WWF matches. |

It will cut back on cheap countout finishes. The only drawback is in TNM if you choose that a ref counts to 20, then even Texas Deathmatch type matches will go for a 20 count, and the matches may take forever to end. |
psz | Posted on 09/23/07 at 04:38:12 I've found that most Japanese refs count to 20 in about the same amount of time a US ref would count to 15 or so. |

Hey you, stay in your corner! Opponent: I'm just standing here! I'm not doing nuthin'! Ref: Ok, where was I.. 1... 2... Hey! Don't you go after him! Opponent: I'm not! I'm just standing here! Ref: Ok, um.. 1... 2... etc.. |
psz | Posted on 09/23/07 at 15:06:33 No no, just the space of time between 1 and 2. In Japan, the count seems to be faster... Closer to a boxing count. Not quite AS fast as boxing, but closer. |
C-R-P-L-S | Posted on 09/24/07 at 00:23:32Yes, because countouts are SHOOT FINISHES. |
Mr. Ken Kennedy | Posted on 09/24/07 at 02:01:46 So in WWE, if a heel gets DQd or counted out on purpose to keep a title, that's a SHOOT? |

C-R-P-L-S | Posted on 09/24/07 at 17:56:43 Well, yeah, but that was a work, so it's not saying much! |
