So, what have I missed

DemonDanPosted on 08/11/03 at 22:39:19

I haven't watched any Puroresu since 1999.

Have I missed anything good?

Is Toryumon and ARSION still around?
Special KPosted on 08/11/03 at 23:55:10

Toryumon is still around.

ARSION was turned into A to Z with Mima Shimoda heading the organization.

Big Japan has turned into a major failure thanks to those idiots at CZW. (I will never watch another CZW card again).

Kenji Muto left New Japan for All Japan. And All Japan is about to fail after the death of Giant Baba, the resignation of Motoko Baba, and the bad promotion made by Muto.

Riki Choysu left New Japan to create his own promotion World Japan in 2003, that was a total failure and about to close. One of their matches had a disqualification in at Death Match, and one of their trainees was killed in a training accident.

Every Japanese program attendance is down, but Noah and Zero One are holding stable. New Japan looks to go back on way back up.

All-Japan Womens is about to end, but it looks like Ayako Hamada looks like keeping the WWWA Title while being a member of GAEA.

Finally my favorite Joshi Wrestler, Kayo Noumi closed her website. (Boo Hoo).

I recommend going to www.picksi.com or www.ichibanpuroresu.com for Japanese Puroresu info.

Giant Ochai was the wrestler that just died, wasn't he?

I remember him from a Pride I watched a while back.

Ayako Hamada was one of my favorite Joshi workers back then.

How is BattlARTS doing?

Big Japan a failure?  It always was a failure in my eyes.

Hayabusa is paralyzed after he slipped off the rope and landed on his neck. He is slowly improving and trying to walk without crutches.

FMW went bankrupt in 2001. Shochoi Arai found dead from hanging as result from mounting debts. Kodo Fuyuki formed WEW. He had Onita appear on their first show and caused a split within few roster members. See below the wrestlers who bolt.

Hayabusa would form WMF and includes Kuroda, Mr. Gannosuke, Mammoth Sasaki, Jinsei Shinzaki, Onryo, Ricky Fuji, Oya, and Goemon to name a few. Only Kuroda splits time from WEW and WMF.

Later in 2001, Fuyuki announced he have intestinal cancer but still get involved with angles and feuds. He would have surgery to have it remove but it already spread to his liver. He would die earlier this year about a month before his last match against Shinya Hashimoto. Kintaro Kanemura takes his spot in a worst squash ever.

WMF still around but the storylines and feuds turned into a clusterfuck. The main heel stable Double-Cross abandoned for no reason. Mr. Gannosuke faction with few wrestlers with the "-osuke" name to it is the main heel faction right now. Some moves have gotten questionable like bringing in Matsunaga, Mr. Pogo, and even Onita (no-showed for diet meeting) for a match or two.

WEW is now run by former FMW booker and referee Go Ito.

I miss FMW.

BattlArts folded in 2002 I believe. However, Yuki Ishikawa runs a few shows a year under the BattBatt name. Most of their wrestlers have gone on to success elsewhere.

Here is a basic status check of all the major promotions, listed by rank, with some of their noteable wrestlers.

1. NJPW: Yuji Nagata, Masahiro Chono, Yoshihiro Takayama (actually a freelancer), Jushin Lyger, Tiger Mask IV

2. NOAH: Mitsuharu Misawa, Kenta Kobashi, Jun Akiyama, Tamon Honda (unfortunately), Naomichi Marufuji

3. Zero-ONE: Shinya Hashimoto, Naoya Ogawa, Masato Tanaka, Shinjiro Otani, Tatsuhito Takaiwa

4. AJPW: Keiji Muto, Toshiaki Kawada, Satoshi Kojima, Kendo Ka Shin, Kaz Hayashi

5. World Japan: Riki Choshu, Genichiro Tenryu, Takao Omori, Kensuke Sasaki, Shiro Koshinaka

Other Indys

Osaka Pro: Super Delfin's promotion
Top Stars: Takehiro Murahama, Gamma, Ebessan

Toryumon: Ultimo Dragon's promotion
Top Stars: CIMA, Magnum TOKYO, Masaaki Mochizuki

T2P: Toryumon 's 2nd generation promotion - most guys wrestle on regular shows, but T2P still holds their own shows.
Top Stars: Milano Collection AT, Anthony W. Mori, Second Doi

Michinoku Pro: Great Sasuke's promotion, now in hands of Gran Hamada
Top Stars: Gran Hamada, Dick Togo, CURRY MAN~!!

WMF and WEW: Already well-covered above

DDT: Sanshiro Takagi's promotion (?)
Top Stars: MIKAMI, Takashi Sasaki, Poison Sawada JULIE

BJPW: Sucks anyway
Only guys who don't suck: Ryuji Yamakawa, MEN's Teioh, Daisuke Sekimoto

There are plenty of good sites do get a recap of what has gone down over the past few years. Look into them. Trust me, its a very good time to get back into puroresu now as all signs show it is about to explode again.
