que es El Grio

LillaThrillaPosted on 08/19/07 at 23:08:17

Who was El Grio ("The Cricket") in the Cruiserweight Battle Royale at WCW Slamboree 98?

He wears a dark blue outfit and the announcers claim he was trained by Juventud Guerrera.

I remember watching the match and expecting El Grio to be some sort of trick by Malenko, but then he got eliminated (and Malenko turned out to be Ciclope). I figure it was probably someone doing a one shot deal, possibly even not a real luchadore (ala Mr. JL).

Here's Jericho's introductions for the match.  El Grio comes out around the 2:20 mark.  Looks like he's got some kind of tattoo on his left shoulder that might be distinctive...

I have no idea, but that Cruiserweight Battle Royal was fun to watch. Thanks for linking to it.

There's lots of cool wrestling stuff on YouTube these days.  I've seen a bunch of swank WCW lucha matches, TPE putting random guys through tables in WCW, the famous Liger-Muta match, the Razor-HBK Ladder matches, TLC original (I saw the Wrestlemania TLC 2 - it was on the 2nd of 2 PPVs I've ever seen), and the War Games where Sid bounces Pillman's head off the top of the cage.

The best part of that is that after bouncing his head off the cage, then dropping him on his neck, he picks Pillman up and does another powerbomb.

Sid is working Memphis with Lawler... Vince has gotta resign him soon.

A: Is his back any better?

B: Does he really CARE enough to get back on a full time road gig?
CrplsPosted on 08/20/07 at 20:23:56

I have no idea what the condition of his back is.

I think he's mentioned wanting to get back in the WWE. Whether he wants to, or can, work a full time schedule is another story. (Not to mention whether or not the WWE would even want him.)

Honestly, I just want Sid back on my TV powerbombing and chokeslamming people.

He worked with Scorpio in PWU a couple of weeks ago. God, I want to see that.

I'm a big Sid mark and I'd be happy to see him terrorize some folks.  He looks pretty old in Memphis but he is approaching 50 so it's understandable.

One more Mean Mark Callous vs Sid Vicious match....

(Eh, maybe not)

Back?  How about that gruesome broken leg he suffered on Nitro???

I'm amused my threat about El Grio turned into a discussion about SID. LOL

Well he is in fact  the master and ruler of the world.

Rick GarrardPosted on 08/21/07 at 01:28:51

and he once hailed in WCW from "anywhere he damned well pleases" prior to teaming with Big Van Vader.

starts the "sid! Sid! SID!" chant!!

*gets nightmares* Nooooooooooooooooooooooo. The guy couldn't wrestle very well.

I might have the answer. I looked at the match itself on Youtube and someone there said El Grio is "Lizmark Jr. in his first character"

That's odd - wasn't Lizmark Jr his name from Mexico?

Oh well, this is WCW after all.  Maybe they worried Lizmark JR would be confused with Rey Misterio JR?  ::)
pszPosted on 09/29/07 at 06:00:20

Don't forget Chavo Guerrero Jr!

They were afraid to call someone a "Lizmark" since she was supposed to be a heel with the nWo.  ;)

Nah, Chavo Jr didn't have a mask; Rey Jr and Lizmark Jr did.  Masked Mexicans with simliar names all look the same! :P

If only Elizabeth wasn't dead, this would be a perfect IHLW angle...

Then again, I could always do Katie Vick: The Sequel?  ;D

You could always bring in Pepe Jr. for Chavo

Tonight in a TNA vs. ECW exclusive, Norman Smiley and a partner of his choosing vs. Pepe Jr. & Hijo del Pepe with the loser of the fall going into the woodchipper!
