LillaThrilla | Posted on 03/05/09 at 14:49:12 What is the best book about lucha? Mondo Lucha A-Go-Go? The World of Lucha Libre: Secrets, Revelations, and Mexican National Identity? Something else? |
Rick Garrard | Posted on 08/05/09 at 03:21:26 "El Dandy: Who Are You to Doubt Me?" is quite possibly the best of all the books available. :) |
LillaThrilla | Posted on 01/20/10 at 21:54:06 Since I posted this question a year ago I've managed to get both "Mondo Lucha A-Go-Go" and "The World of Lucha Libre: Secrets, Revelations, and Mexican National Identity" via my local library. "World of Lucha Libre" turned out to be worthless. It's not really about lucha so much as a sociological piece about how the different aspects of Mexican wrestling relate to Mexican culture and society. "Mondo Lucha" is actually about what lucha is and its history, but it's a really style-over-substance coffee table type book. If you're looking for a more comprehensive history of lucha libre and luchadores, this really isn't it. |
