One of the reasons I love lucha libre...

What else can you flip over to on a Sunday afternoon and see 3 evil clowns in bright clothes fighting a guy in a mask, a caveman and a goat and NOT say "Dude, what the fuck"  :)

Hey, what channel do you get lucha on?

I guess the only Spanish-language channel I have is Telemundo, and the internet seems to suggest they're not broadcasting any promotions right now.

Galavision

Well, ICP had matches in ECW against Balls and Axle and the Dudleyz...

No mask, but almost all the rest applies

No, these are clowns with talent.  ;D

LOS PAYASOS DEL DIABOLICO are fun... but I wouldn't exactly call them talented.

I was talking in comparison to ICP
CrplsPosted on 08/06/07 at 17:42:18

ICP are terrible and all, but they've always seemed to be enjoying themselves and at least trying--probably harder than many--but they just suck, so it doesn't help. But I'll give them credit for it.

Oh man I caught some of that 6-man. I have it DVR'd but I haven't watched it all the way. I saw a sweet 'foul' on the Caveman, though.
CrplsPosted on 08/06/07 at 21:31:55

The caveman is Canibal, FWIW.

Notice how he is black. LUCHA <3

Lucha may be the last bastion of stereotyping all of it s characters in pro wrestling.

But I don't think anybody in Mexico actually cares. :P

Mexico seems to be the last bastion of having a true face/heel divide.  The nWo and Stone Cold sorta killed that in the USA and Japan has always downplayed the face/heel thing.

People need to put more Galavision lucha on YouTube so I can watch it.  Bihari's old clipshows are like getting one slice of pizza instead of the whole pie...
CrplsPosted on 08/07/07 at 21:26:03

The "no face/heels" in Japan is vastly overstated. NJPW has always had clear face/heel distinctions and they've been #1 for 35 years now. The difference is that the fans will cheer the heels regardless. But there are still clear distinctions in the booking.

Also, not only are the stereotypes awesome, but the "offensive" gimmicks are great too.

LOS TALEBAN+SADAM <3.
LillaThrillaPosted on 08/07/07 at 23:37:15

I still want to see Los Pentiums!!! :P
