"m" key question

cerberosPosted on 01/27/05 at 20:12:50

Hey everyone.  How does the "m" key work if you have talent restrictions on?  Could it still pull a wrestler in from a fed that has the talent restrictions on?  If so is that avoidable somehow?  Thanks in advance.

I find a good safe way to do it is open up a Test circuit and then schedule a match that involves a mystery opponent.  This way, you don't accidentally get stuck with someone who's in the competing circuit/a woman wrestler if you want a male wrestler/a mini if you want a heavyweight, etc.

The way I generally avoid minis and women wrestlers is by not installing them if I don't plan on using them.  Yeah, I've got a few in my database, but few enough to make sure that mess ups are few and far between.

The problem with the test circuit idea is that it ruins the element of surprise for the person running the card.  Plus I generally use that method for selecting the wrestlers I'm going to hire outright (I like things nice and random), so it negates the whole purpose of using the m key in the first place.

Another problem with the m key is that sometimes people you bring in that way don't want to sign longterm deals after a trial period.  Just hiring the guys that you brought up in a test circuit removes this bit of unpredictability.

So let me ask you Critic, do you usually just NOT install like WWE guys?  The reason I ask is because I want to do a circuit where I only hire 2 main guys (to 12 cards) and the rest are going to be random including tag teams and go from there.  I want to keep a 20 man roster with everyone else being on 6 card contracts.  But I want it to be a more "indy/Legend" fed then a bunch of WWE guys who couldn't really work a non-WWE show.  How do you avoid the problem of WWE guys or don't you care?

I keep WWE wrestlers installed because I use them in my circuits.  In LIW's case, when one of them joins my roster I simply say that they no longer work for WWE.  To balance this out, I assume that many of the wrestlers who don't renew contracts or give notice are going to WWE.  It seems to work out well enough for me so far.

If my main circuit project was something where I wanted to avoid all WWE guys and planned to use the m key a lot, I would probably either export all the undesired wrestlers then delete them from the database, or install a second copy of TNM without them there.

It would be easier to use a test circuit to pre-screen, yes, but I personally feel like the unpredictability of the m key would be worth an extra half hour of setup time for me.  Your mileage may vary.

You could also install a second TNM and don't put any of the WWE guys in it.  That could get you around that.

The second copy is the way to go... or in some cases... 8th, 9th even 10th copy of TNM. As long as you don't have more than one open at a time, you don't violate the user agreement that you agree to when you install TNM. And I can tell you at one time on an old computer I had something like 8 copies of TNM installed at a time. Different databases for different purposes for different styles of circuits.

I do the same thing.  One TNM is devoted to all legends for the old school circuit, another one is for a WWE brand extension circuit I'm running, and another one is for any other circuits I'm running.
