Plug-Ins On Vista

ShiningYakuza3Posted on 02/26/09 at 03:42:04

Hey guys, it's me again...Anyways...I've TNM going on Vista 64-bit finally.  Now, just one more piece of help if possible.  How do I get my plug-ins to work, specifically Theme Music Wizard.  Image Visualizer works, but I would really like to get Theme Music Wizard to work, but it says this is a Win32 application.  Anyone have a clue?  Thanks in advance.

Windows-based plugins cannot run from DOSBox, as DOSBox only handles DOS applications.

CarlzillaPosted on 02/26/09 at 04:02:15

You get a REAL OS.

I'm in the process of trying to get the plugins that I'm writing to be Vista compatible, and I can say without a doubt that Vista is the largest pile of horseshit I've ever had the mispleasure of programming for. Honestly, go to www.thepiratebay.org, search for windows xp student edition, download it, install it and fuck vista for the rest of fucking eternity, or if for some reason you want vista (masochist), then at least dual boot it.

Seriously there is no excuse for anyone to continue to use this garbage, just pirate the better copy of windows already, MS already has your fucking money.

Damn I'm irritable about how shitty this suckstorm of an OS is.
ShiningYakuza3Posted on 02/26/09 at 04:03:49

So is there anyway to play the themes iN tnm7?
CarlzillaPosted on 02/26/09 at 04:04:43

Not in shitty vista. Have I mentioned fuck vista lately? FUCK VISTA!
ShiningYakuza3Posted on 02/26/09 at 04:07:20

LOL...I know what u mean Carlzilla

*sigh*

Again

It's NOT Vista

It's the fact you're running *64-BIT* Vista

You would have *THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS* on 64bit 2000, 64bit XP and 64bit Windows 7.

Windows Vista 32bit runs TNM7 fine, as well as the plugins.

There is no 16bit support in any 64bit Windows. TNM7 is a 16bit, DOS based app.

The reason there is no 16bit support is the simple fact that companies haven't written 16bit apps is over a decade, aside to one or two specialised occasions specific to older hardware.

When Windows 2000 Itanium Edition was created, it was designed for Intel's 64bit Itanium chip, which didn't have 16 bit support (it had emulated 32bit support)

When Windows XP 64bit came out, it wasn't promoted for end-users, and was mainly for high-end, processor intensive applications, and thus had no need for 16bit support.

When Vista came it, it was the first time that an end-user 64bit Windows was available, and by that time, to be very blunt, such a small amount of users will EVER need to use 16bit apps, especially if they're running mutli-core, 64bit processors :-P

Face it, TNM users are a niche group.

Oh, and if Oliver were to have time to recompile TNM as a 32bit-pure app, it would most likely run fine on Vista/XP/2K/Win7 64bit versions. Then you could run all of the non-16bit Plugins directly.

(Sorry about the tone... Seems like I've had to point out the 64bit thing about a dozen times, now :-P)
CarlzillaPosted on 02/26/09 at 04:40:01

It's not just 64bit vista dude, Snabbit is running 32 bit and is having trouble with some of them, as am I on my 32bit vista laptop. They work fine with XP. On top of that Vista spits out one fucking error code for every error under the sun, how fucking helpful is that?

Fuck Vista.

Also, sorry about the tone, I'm not trying to come off as an asshole, I'm just saying that it's not entirely an x64 issue here. It's that Vista is incompatible with just about everything. It doesn't even run it's own .net runtime packages correctly...it's a known problem for both x64 and x86 versions. MSFD keep releasing "compatibility updates"...if their OS didn't lick dog dick, it wouldn't need 'em.

I've had no issues with Vista so far except for one plugin (The Special Move Wizard)
CarlzillaPosted on 02/26/09 at 19:00:08

That's part of why the issue is so annoying though, it seems like Vista arbitrarily decides what it is and isn't compatible with on the fly. Of course it isn't the case, but sometimes it can be very hard to figure out exactly why Vista isn't working with your program, especially when it works one one computer with Vista and not on the next.

Turns out that I had nobody but myself to blame for my SMW plugin crashing. Apparantly I gave a wrestler in my list all special move names, and it turns out that you can only have up to 30 custom move names per wrestler, that and my moves were over the limit in my database (not by a lot, but still)
CarlzillaPosted on 03/01/09 at 06:59:07

I also figured out my vista problems...I still don't like it though.
pszPosted on 03/01/09 at 14:33:18

Just to clear something up: My whole point about "It's not just Vista" was simply that if you use 64bit Windows XP, you still cannot use TNM7 as a "native" application.

You STILL have to use DosBox, which means you STILL can't use Windows-based plugins.

32bit Vista and XP do not have THAT problem.

Not saying there aren't OTHER problems ;->
LillaThrillaPosted on 03/01/09 at 16:02:45

Now Carzilla, stop holding back, tell us how you REALLY feel. :P

Microsoft should've done something about backwards compatability then.

Speaking of Windows, has anyone tried Windows Seven 32 bit yet?
pszPosted on 03/02/09 at 01:00:40

Sorry, I'm All 64bit here (Vista/Win7 64bit)

However, since Windows 7 is actually Windows 6.1 (Vista being 6.0), I don't see there being a difference between Vista 32 and Win7 32.
