Tag Teams and Intros

Shaun SindelmanPosted on 10/04/04 at 03:17:07

I saw that the new TNM 7 SE build was supposed to allow multiple themes during ring intros when the members of a tag team had their own seperate intros.

So far all i keep seeing is that both guys come out to the song of 1 of the members and the other guys song never plays.

whats up with that?
Oliver CoppPosted on 10/04/04 at 08:34:01

Each entity comes in to their own music. If a tag team is listed in the tag team database, they count as an entity. Same with a stable or a single wrestler.

If you have a match where three entities team, three themes will be played.

The solution to this would be to take this team out of the tag team database.
Critic of the DawnPosted on 10/04/04 at 08:53:52

So if the tag team is registered (in effect) by being placed in the tag team database, the intros will play as usual (either using the one selected for the team or, failing that, a random one from the team), yes?

Good.  I was a bit worried that you might get overzealous with this feature and make it effect all unnamed tag teams.  While I can see just cause for this in some cases, in others (A-Train & Ahmed Johnson, for example), 2 seperate themes would just be absurd.

Thanks again.  I'll be trying Build 3 out tomorrow.

I'm confused. here's the situation that i've been noticing since ive upgraded:

- Psicopa & The Biz are not a tag team listed in the database, they are 2 singles guys i put together for a match. Each has a seperate theme that plays when they are in singles action but when they come out as a tag team, only Psicopa's theme plays for both of their intros.

I have noticed another interesting thing in which one guys theme will play for the entrance and when they won, the other guys theme played for their exit.

am i doing something wrong?

Are you positively sure you updated to Build 3? It's working fine on my end.

On a side note, instead of me starting another thread on this topic, I have a small request for this feature Oliver.

Would there be any way to make it that we have to hit a key in order to advance to the next wrestler? As it is now, as soon as one's entrance text is done, it immediately cuts to the next wrestler. It would be nice to allow the theme to play a little bit before moving on.
Critic of the DawnPosted on 10/05/04 at 09:47:39

Agreed.

Shaun SindelmanPosted on 10/07/04 at 02:15:30

Yep - i definitely upgraded to TNM7SE Build 3 and my Theme Music Wizard is registered so I dont know what my problem is. Oliver can you help me here?

My audio options are:

- When Running in DOS/16 Bit Windows, Play Themes Through PLANY.EXE is checked

and

- When Running in Win 9x/NT 4, I have DON'T USE NEW MULTIMEDIA ENGINE - USE OLD ONE is checked and so is USE INTERNAL PLAYER FOR WAVS; MEDIA PLAYER FOR OTHERS.

And all of my themes are Wavs. They are somewhat long - does it play the whole wav before it goes to the next one? I'm really confused on how the intros work.

Where does my problem lie?

Like I said in my previous post, the first team member announced will only play until their text intro is done. As soon as it reaches the end, the other team member comes out to their music.
That's why I asked Oliver if he could fix it because all you get is like 10-20 seconds of theme before it stops.

No clue. Guess he took some time off after releasing those last two. I know he should be back soon because he is supposed to be releasing an updated roster pack on October 15th.
Shaun SindelmanPosted on 10/12/04 at 15:24:27

then I have a problem on my end because the theme doesnt change over when the 2nd tag member's intro text begins to display.

The separate entrances aren't working for me either.

My results are the same as those described by Shaun Sindelman.

At least now Oliver will pay attention maybe. =)

Could you please send me a screenshot of how the two are set up? Are you using the Theme Music Wizard or the Control Center?

As far as entrance and exit themes go - it'll usually play the theme for the person getting the fall when the match ends. Could that be the source of the confusion?

Shaun SindelmanPosted on 10/15/04 at 03:08:54

Oliver -

I'm going to send you a screen shot of my Audio options since I tried to uncheck the "Don't Use Multimedia Engine - Use Old One" and it gave me NO audio at all.

As for how my themes are set up, it's thru the Theme Music Wizard. All my themes are set up thru there and they are ALL wav files.

Also, i understand now that the person who gets the fall in the tag match has HIS music played at the end.

I'd still like to figure out the problem with the entrances for tag teams who are consisting of 2 singles guys  that don't share the same theme.

Oliver CoppPosted on 10/15/04 at 08:57:53

Well, if you're not using the new engine, you can't possibly get the themes to work right... the old engine does *not* support the new features.

You don't get any audio at all? What version of the Windows Media Player are you using?

Please download the following files:

http://www.tnm7.com/downloads/intros.zip

Unzip it to your PROGRAM folder.

Then open the TNM.CNF file from your main TNM 7 SE folder in Notepad and add the line:

WaitBetweenEntrances=1

That should get things rolling for you.
triad4evrPosted on 10/15/04 at 09:12:44

I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon here, too. I only get one theme myself- I had checked "Use internal player for WAV files; Media Player for all others" and was getting music fine (including MP3s which a lot of my wrestlers have now). When I switched to "Use Windows Media Player for all files", I got no music at all. What version of Media Player should we be using?

triad4evrPosted on 10/15/04 at 10:44:33

This may sound stupid, but I can't find TNM.CNF anyplace. I get some kind of shortcut when I do a search for the file name...

When I try to open that file, all I get is pure gibberish- nothing looks like the line you suggest... Is there a way to edit this through TweakCirc's Browse TNM.CNF function? Thanks.
triad4evrPosted on 10/15/04 at 11:03:46

Well, I inserted the line at the end of TNM.CNF and now it pauses between wrestlers but it still only plays one theme on entrance. It plays the other on exit if the second wrestler gets the pin.

By the way, I just updated to Windows Media Player 10 and it still doesn't play music when I tell it to play all themes through Media Player.
Oliver CoppPosted on 10/15/04 at 12:54:50

There really is very little I can do about the problem, honestly. If TNM doesn't pop up a message box saying that the multimedia system can't be initialized, then it doesn't "know" that something is wrong.

This is a simplified version of the dialog going on with TNM and Windows:

TNM: Hey, Windows - TNM calling. I need your multimedia interface.

Windows: Hey, good to see you. Everything's working fine. Just let me know what I can do for you.

TNM: OK, now would be the time to play the first wrestler's theme.

Windows: Alrighty - I'm your hookup.

TNM: Is it on yet?

Windows: Here you go.

...

That's how Windows behaves. If it doesn't, TNM will throw an error. Since TNM by definition is deaf and blind, it has no way of actually checking if what Windows tells it is the truth.

The gibberish is fine - it's encoded. Just add your text line. Then you can edit its value from that point forward via TweakCirc SE:
Shaun SindelmanPosted on 10/15/04 at 15:39:40

I'm using WMP9.

I've tried every option with the Old Engine unchecked and got the following results:

Use Internal Player for Wavs, Media for all others
I hear themes but it doesnt play both for tag teams consisting of 2 singles.

Play themes through PLANY.EXE
I get to the intros and it says "Input file not found, aborting"

Use Media Player for all themes
After it says "This contest is a tag team match scheduled for one fall", it goes to a dos prompt of TNM7SE/name of my circuit. If I type in "exit", it goes back to the introductions but no music plays.

so you're saying it's a lost cause on my end?

If so - that's cool. I can live with hearing 1 theme per tag team if its the only way my themes will play at all

This is definitely not my day. I added the line to the top of the TNM.CNF file and then went into my TNM, into a circuit, chose TWEAKCIRC and went to Browse TNM.CNF but the key is nowhere to be found.

What the heck am i doing wrong?

OK, then we're narrowing it down.

Your tag teams consisting of two singles - are they listed as tag teams in the tag team database or unlisted?

Do both wrestlers have themes?

If all things fail, please export the two wrestlers in question and send me their export file and the themes you use for them. I'll have to try to reproduce it on my end.

Thanks.
Shaun SindelmanPosted on 10/15/04 at 18:48:20

they are not listed as a tag team in the tag team database. they are simply 2 guys i threw together for a match.

both do indeed have seperate themes set up for them in the TMW.

i'll send you the 2 exports and wavs tonight when i get home from work. thanks for keeping on this, Oliver.

Any idea why im not seeing the configuration key in TNM.CNF for "waitbetweeentrances" when im in TweakCircSE?

Oliver CoppPosted on 10/15/04 at 21:45:35

I think I know why :-). The line is added to the main config file whereas TweakCirc adds the circuit config file  ::)
Shaun SindelmanPosted on 10/15/04 at 21:53:44

so in other words, as long as we add the line to the bottom of the main TNM.cnf file, it will work but we won't be able to tweak the value in the TWEAKCIRC?
Oliver CoppPosted on 10/15/04 at 22:28:51

Yes, because it isn't a circuit-specific setting.
triad4evrPosted on 10/16/04 at 00:42:16

Good deal. I, for one, can survive just one theme too, but maybe after you've looked as Shaun's I can send you an export of mine. I did try a number of different pairings of wrestlers, none of which are a regular team, some of which had WAVs for themes, some of which had MP3s for themes. It seems to only play the first one no matter what the format. And my themes are all 30 second snippets. I can't help but wonder if maybe it's still trying to play the second one too soon after the first and Windows is getting confused. Hope ya find it, but if ya don't, I'll live.
Oliver CoppPosted on 10/16/04 at 01:18:45

Windows can handle playing up to 16 files synchronously, so that won't be a problem ;)

Maybe I'll send you a specially-prepared version of INTROS.EXE which then logs everything it does to a textfile. This could help find the source of the problem on your end.

Thanks,

Oliver
Shaun SindelmanPosted on 10/16/04 at 02:15:05

that sounds like a plan to me. im sending you my exports and themes via that SendIt website now - 10 MB zip file.

btw - i put the WAIT thing in my TNM.CNF and i dont get a pause between introductions. (does it matter where in the text file it goes?)

Sounds like a plan- Send the thingy to my AOL account, triad4evr@aol.com. Thanks!

[Edit: Just for the record, I tried a triples match where two of the three were a team and the third guy was not part of the team. The theme for the first guys did play, but it cut off before the end as it began introducing the other guy. His music still didn't play, but it did terminate the previous music. Don't know if that helps, but here ya go.]
triad4evrPosted on 10/16/04 at 05:03:48

Yet another tidbit- I just ran a match with two teams of two individuals each that don't normally team, and it played the second guy's music for the first, then didn't play anything for the second guy. It did this for _both_ teams! Weird, huh?

[Edit: Just FYI, all four of them are singles champions of one type or another!]
Oliver CoppPosted on 10/16/04 at 10:23:04

I just sent you the file. I'm really interested in where things go from here.
Shaun SindelmanPosted on 10/16/04 at 16:53:28

Oliver -

Did you get my file ok?

Any diagnosis yet?
Oliver CoppPosted on 10/16/04 at 17:29:38

I imported your guys, assigned them their themes in the Theme Music Wizard and scheduled a tag match with Strike Force against the two.

First Strike Force's theme played, then Jimi Hendrix kicked in and finally, Wu Tang Clan introduced Psicopa.

In short: everything worked fine.

I can't, for the life of me, duplicate what you're experiencing.

The only way I can get this behaviour is by going into Options / Audio Options and then checking "Don't Use New Multimedia Engine - Use Old Instead".
Shaun SindelmanPosted on 10/16/04 at 18:04:02

that's cool. Chances are it's something with my system.

Like I said before, I can certainly live with 1 theme playing per team, no matter what if its the only way i can hear the themes at all.

maybe it will help figure things out if you sent me the file you sent the other guy.
Oliver CoppPosted on 10/16/04 at 18:52:09

I'll do that.
Oliver CoppPosted on 10/17/04 at 09:40:00

For all: http://www.tnm7.com/downloads/intros.zip has been updated to include logging which will help diagnose possible problems on your end.

TomImp - please also download. It fixes a glitch in pausing between entrances.
Oliver CoppPosted on 10/17/04 at 10:06:54

If the message "open= 265" appears in your THEMELOG.TXT that means that your Windows Media Player is throwing an %MCIERR_HARDWARE error.

If this occurs, the problem is with your sound card and definitely something I can't do anything about.

The only suggestion I have would be to check for an updated audio driver.
Oliver CoppPosted on 10/17/04 at 11:17:07

Another update to http://www.tnm7.com/downloads/intros.zip.

For those few of you getting hardware errors, I've found a possible workaround.

What you have to do:
- unzip the above INTROS.ZIP to the PROGRAM folder, replacing INTROS.EXE
- use .WAV files only

If a hardware error is detected by the Media Player, TNM will now try to default to the sndPlaySound() API which'll at least play WAV files.

The workaround has one more drawback. Using the MMSystem API, it is possible to play more than one sound at the same time, thus allowing for overlapping themes (which makes jump cuts less audible). This can't be done with the sndPlaySound() API, hence one theme will end before the next one begins.
JustinPosted on 10/19/04 at 02:31:18

don't know if this is my fault or not but when one theme is done playing and the next member's theme is supposed to play nothing happens. The text types out but no theme plays. This happens for every team that should have 2 seperate themes play

plus when a team is in the database (ie Steve Williams & Terry Gordy) but only one member has a theme (Williams) it still tries to play 2 themes because they have no team name and they get intro'd seperately

For teams not in the database it occationally plays the wrong theme for the first member's entrance and then still nothing for the remaining team member(s)
Oliver CoppPosted on 10/31/04 at 22:42:39

Thank you, Justin. Could you please send me the log file that is generated? And if the "theme play error" (i.e. playing the wrong theme) happens again, could you please let me know what match it happened with and if you can reproduce it?

Thanks a bunch!

Oliver
JustinPosted on 11/05/04 at 14:17:48

It was playing the wrong themes in a tournament, especially for the team of Rhyno & Tajiri: Rhyno would be intro'd first & Tajiri's music would play.
It happened with some other teams as well (Scott Steiner & Test, Mark Jindrak & Luther Reigns are 2 others)

I sent you the THEME.LOG, did you get it?
Oliver CoppPosted on 11/06/04 at 01:55:39

Yes... and I had replied to your e-mail days ago that everything was fine judging from the file.

Are you having this behaviour with created tag teams only? In other words: do both guys have themes assigned or just the team?
JustinPosted on 11/06/04 at 02:01:59

never got your email replies... was the visualizer file ok too?

yes both individuals have a themes assigned.
Oliver CoppPosted on 11/06/04 at 10:24:03

No. I wrote you that it would be in your best interest to delete the file INDEX.DAT completely and from now on *only* use the Visualizer Image Wizard for editing.

I wouldn't even know where to start when describing the errors that I found there from manual editing - which the Visualizer can't even remotely be prepared for.

The smallest problem was not entering the wrestlers' names with proper capitalization, the biggest one was having an empty line every now and then - which *kills* every strongly-typed file format dead.

Don't get me wrong - manual editing is an option but you have to go extra sure not to break the file format. That is also the reason why the Visualizer Image Wizard couldn't work with your file anymore.
