Error 2

Shaun SindelmanPosted on 05/16/04 at 17:18:07

I tried to make a new gimmick match and I got "Error 2 at pgm-ctr: 35176"

Same thing happens when I try to edit a gimmick match.

I feel this may be due to me importing some gimmick matches recently but ive deleted those and i still get the error.

any help would be great.

P.S. - I HAVE used the diag and it gave me an all clear check on the databases and circuits.
phudjiePosted on 05/17/04 at 12:40:26

.....have you used the diagnostic tool plug-in?
Shaun SindelmanPosted on 05/18/04 at 14:45:06

I've tried to delete and then reinstall and I still get the error. But now I feel it may due to some foreign objects I imported that I downloaded from another website.

Can someone (Oliver) take a look at my files and give me an idea as to what is going wrong?
IronwolfePosted on 05/25/04 at 04:16:58

I'm bumping into this same problem both in attempting to add a new gimmick match and editing an existing one.  The matches can be accessed during a card run, it's just the attempt to add or edit that seems to create this particular error.

Just ran the diagnostic and it came up clean.  I've debated deleting all of the gimmick matches, but I really, really, don't wanta do that as it means exporting each of them separately or recreating each of them, assuming it works.

This isn't a crucial matter for me, but certainly a confounding one.
Shaun SindelmanPosted on 05/25/04 at 04:33:59

what gimmick matches did you import from other websites? trying to see if your problems are related to mine based on gimmick match imports
IronwolfePosted on 05/25/04 at 04:48:07

Boy oh boy...tough question because I haven't imported new gimmicks for probably over a year.  Most of the ones I did pick up were off TNM or the TNM Warehouse (I don't think it's around anymore?) and the TNM Basement.

Best I can do really is give you a list of the gimmick matches I do have.  Maybe a comparison to your own might come up with some ringers.

Yea it's not going to help much since i've deleted some of my gimmicks and some of my foreign objects hoping to get rid of whatever quirks are plaguing me.
Rick GarrardPosted on 05/26/04 at 17:59:44

based on some research an error 2 has something to do with invalid data types, which Oliver says should not be able to happen.

My guess is that you will want to email him personally to get to the bottom of this one.
Oliver CoppPosted on 05/29/04 at 20:24:42

Absolutely. If you ZIP up your TNM 7 SE folder and send it my way, I'll try to duplicate the problem and will get you up to speed again ASAP.

Thanks!
Shaun SindelmanPosted on 05/30/04 at 23:37:01

i sent you the zip file

thx alot
Oliver CoppPosted on 05/31/04 at 13:30:20

No trace of it yet. Did you send it to copp@hexacon.de or copp@tnm7.com?
NormanTharxFanPosted on 05/31/04 at 15:30:15

I'm getting the same problem, damn my limited e-mail space

Oliver CoppPosted on 06/01/04 at 21:23:07

I can confirm receiving your TNM. I'll get to it tonight.
Oliver CoppPosted on 06/01/04 at 21:26:59

Shaun - your TNM works fine here... no error 2s or anything like that.

What OS are you on?
Shaun SindelmanPosted on 06/02/04 at 00:50:00

Windows 98SE
IronwolfePosted on 06/02/04 at 02:28:24

I'm also on 98SE.  One very stupid question: the entire program file for my TNM7 is showing as around 24 MB (4MB of that are in the media file, and another 4 are in the backup file).  Does that sound right?  (I can ZIP that down to around 5MB)

Second, less stupid question - I've got a TNM7 folder in which I updated to the TNM7 SE.  I've also got a TNM7SE folder (can't for the life of me remember if I installed that separately when I bought the SE (probabl did, though).  I seriously doubt that it could be causing problems, but might it?
IronwolfePosted on 06/02/04 at 02:38:25

I just installed it on my Windows 2000 machine and it works fine there.
Oliver CoppPosted on 06/02/04 at 14:36:45

Is anybody who is getting this error on a machine OTHER THAN a Win98(SE) one?
Critic of the DawnPosted on 06/04/04 at 18:20:46

Just checked it on my XP Machine.  Seems to be working fine for me, but before I got this computer I was running Win98 SE and it gave me the error every time I tried to edit or create new gimmick matches.  I'd do a bit more checking for you, but sadly that machine's motherboard went kaput, so it isn't possible.

Oliver CoppPosted on 06/05/04 at 13:23:14

Maybe I'll have to whip 98SE on one of the computers here to find out more. Thanks a lot for the info!
Shaun SindelmanPosted on 06/09/04 at 00:46:58

so have we determined yet whether this is an isolated problem among 98SE users?
Oliver CoppPosted on 06/09/04 at 09:13:51

Yes, it is. There is no workaround yet, though, since this most definitely is a bug in Win98's DOS shell. I'm currently testing and shifting replacement code that won't trigger that error on Win98SE boxes.

BTW, it only happens on faily few of them. Several users have e-mailed me that it works fine on 98SE for them.
IronwolfePosted on 06/09/04 at 14:46:04

Well, it's nice to be one of the few...the proud...uh...the uhm, outdated ;).

Thanks, Oliver.  I don't dare try to load 2000 or XP on this particular machine (only a 350) but I suspect I'll just move my TNM over to the 2000.
Oliver CoppPosted on 06/10/04 at 09:36:50

I'm sorry not to be able to give a better solution at the moment. Rest assured, though, that I'm working on it to help you guys get back into the flow.
