Out of ropes

I'm having a little trouble understanding the "out of ropes" concept, and why the first move on a wrestler's moveset has to be out of ropes. Could someone explain?

This is from the beginning of TNM. Back in the first days, the *only* non-generic move a wrestler could perform out of the ropes was the move selected as first move.

It's just a thing of backward compatibility.

So technically, thats not required any more?

Out of curiosity, at what point did that change?

Yes, it still is required to remain backward-compatible to old exports.

This changed for the release of TNM 7 where any move that logically could be done out of the ropes would be done out of the ropes.

With TNM 7 SE, it also started making sure that the "runs into ropes" and "opponent runs" flags are enforced when doing moves, i.e. no more whipping opponent into ropes and then doing a sunset flip on him.
