question on pushes

JackPosted on 01/22/04 at 21:08:13

hi,

can anyone tell me how much influence a wrestler's push has on the outcome of a match.

eg what advantage has a wrestler with push 90 over a wrestler with push 80

The pushes are one factor... although not necessarily the deciding factor. If you have "Strict Pushes" checked, pushes influence match outcomes more than the standard setting.

To expand on that slightly, in all cases Push has the effect of modifying the damage that moves do. While moves have an exact damage number in the database, in practice they do a randomly generated number up to the one listed. Push comes into play here by acting as a multiplier - in other words, wrestlers with a higher push will be able to do more damage with the same moves than wrestlers with lower ones. I believe the exact computation involves dividing the attacker's push by the defenders.

So, for example, John Cena (push 90) is facing Chuck Palumbo (Push 80). All of Cena's moves will be 90/80 = 1.125x as powerful as they would usually be, while Palumbo's will be 80/90 = .889x as powerful as normal. A bodyslam has a standard attack power of 30. For John Cena, it would have a power of 34 (rounded up), while it would have a power of 27 for Chuck Palumbo.

The exact mechanics given might not be quite right, but that's the general gist of it.

With strict pushes turned on, the above happens, plus I believe the probability of pinfalls and submissions is effected in the same way.

Something like that, anyway.

EDIT:  Also, push effects the star rating of matches to some degree.  I don't know if the mechanic is the same or not, however.

Expanding on what Eric said, his basic mechanics are correct but a lot more goes into the calculation.

That's why I didn't list a linear formula: there are MANY factors - push, weight and stamina being three.

As far as match ratings go, pushes do influence them somewhat because fans usually (RVD being the prime exception) care more about wrestlers that are pushed more. However, the code for rating generation alone is in excess of 1,000 lines of code long, so there's a lot more that goes into the equation.
