Error 9 / 62 Combo

Critic_of_the_DawnPosted on 01/13/04 at 02:55:55

Hey Oliver.  Just downloaded the newest patch you released to keep battle royales from being absurdly short and unzipped it into my program folder, then added the line you specified to the TNM.CNF files inside my circuits as instructed.

So I went to run a card today and I was greeted by the unpleasant spectre of an old error that I thought I had escaped back during the open beta days of SE.

Error 9 at pgm-ctr: 85243

This occurred before any matches had occurred, and even before I got any wrestler introductions.

When I try to resume the card in question, I get the following error:

Error 62 at pgm-ctr: 135590

Attempting to totally restart the card gives me the Error 9 again.  The TNM Diagnostic Utility detects no problems.

I last got these errors due to an incompatibility between TNM SE and RM2 in the use of commas in wrestler nicknames.  Due to this issue, I stopped using RM2 months ago.  As I haven't had any major problems since then, I can only conclude that the recent patch and/or the new line in TNM.CNF is to blame.

What should I do?  Should I shut down the match and/or card and try to re-book them?  If I do so, will the cancelled card count as a card that has been run?

Thanks.

The same thing is happening to me as well, Error 9 at 85243 - I thought Error 9 was the memory error - I deleted some stuff but still can't get it to go.
Critic_of_the_DawnPosted on 01/13/04 at 20:57:05

Error 7 is the memory thing, actually.  With the size of the program these days, it's virtually impossible to have a setup where you don't get Error 7 under certain circumstances.  For example, I haven't been able to play a wrestler's themesong from the Control Center for years now, but everything else works fine.

Error 9 is... something else.  I seem to remember it being the program starting a match before it's ready and has all the data loaded and variables calculated... or something.  Do you also get an Error 62 when you attempt to resume the card (At the very top of the menu, taking the place of the normal option to book a new card)?

If you do, and if the pgm-ctr thingy is the same, then it's almost definately a problem with the patch.

Eric,

thank you. Could you please ZIP up your TNM 7 SE folder and send it over for inspection?

I'll get back to you immediately after having viewed it.

Thanks!
Critic_of_the_DawnPosted on 01/14/04 at 08:48:23

Sending as we speak.  For future reference, since TNM is getting quite massive, are there certain folders that it's safe not to include in the zip file to save space?

Yes: the MEDIA folder, the PROGRAM folder and the PLUGINS folder needn't be sent. Neither does the BACKUP folder have to be.

Please unzip the following file in your PROGRAM folder to take care of the problem: http://www.tnm7.com/downloads/prog0104.zip (this has been updated).

It was a simple bug when assigning a title image to the Visualizer.

Thanks and sorry!
Critic_of_the_DawnPosted on 01/15/04 at 18:05:22

Not a problem.  You fixed it quickly enough that it was a minor headache at best.

Two small things, however.  First, I've noticed that the Visualizer doesn't seem to be compatible with .gif files.  Any chance of support being added sometime in the future?  Because most of my titles are, unfortunately, in .gif format.

Second, since installing the file you sent in my email, each time the visualizer starts up, it has opened 2 windows from the start.  I've run 2 5 match cards, and in each it used the second window until the last match, when it switched to the first.  Admittedly, one of the cards was the one that originally caused the error, but the other was freshly created.  I'll let you know if this continues, if you like.  It's hardly a serious issue, after all. :)

Thanks again, Oliver.  We all appreciate how much time you've been devoting to TNM lately.  Keep up the good work, and remember:  When your wife says "Honey, come to bed.  I'm wearing the Trish Stratus costume that you like!" an answer of "In a minute dear.  Let me just figure out why the visualizer opens extra windows sometimes first," is likely to result in sleeping on the couch. ;)

The graphics libraries the Visualizer uses don't support GIF files because to do so, they would have to pay Unisys for a patent they hold regarding the compression used in GIFs.

Sorry that I can't help out there.

I'll update the Visualizer binary to make sure it kills all other running Visualizer windows upon entry - that'll take care of the problem, regardless of the reason.

Thanks for the kind words! Sleeping on the couch doesn't sound SO bad now, does it ;)?
Dameyon_MoorePosted on 01/18/04 at 09:44:51

I'm getting the same error just after the first match on every card.  And it's been running fine all week until about ten minutes ago.

What should I do?
Oliver CoppPosted on 01/18/04 at 10:19:08

I'd recommend dling the patch that I linked to above :)

Yeah, I got it all fixed.  Heh, I didn't see that post in the thread until after I already asked.  I should read threads all the way through, methinks.

Good enough for me.  Stupid proprietary graphics formats...

As a small update, I can say that I haven't run into the multiple-window thing since I last posted, but there were two in a row then.  Sounds like a good plan regarding the proposed fix.  Just one question: will that kill the visualizer window that's open and open a new one to replace it for each match?  Because I run my machine on 800x600 resolution, so I have to shrink the main TNM screen and position it in the upper right corner while placing the visualizer window in the lower left to see both.  By default, new Visualizer windows appear at the top left and take a few seconds to move to where I need them.  I'd prefer to avoid doing this before each match if possible. :)

Thanks a bunch, Oliver.  I'm slowly catching up with my Raws and Smackdowns.  Rosey (!!!) just won the World Heavyweight Title for the third time - he and Foley have been swapping it every few weeks since December.  3MW has been doing as well in my circuit as The Dudley Boys did in your old WWF circuit.  It's strange to have them as my two Monster Heels on RAW...

Oh yeah, that reminds me.  Can I maybe get a free plugin if I manage to get a TNM sign up at the Rumble and/or Wrestlemania, both of which I'm attending?  ;D

Which is perfectly understandable ;)

It'll be a check performed upon entry. A new Visualizer will only start up if no other Visualizer is running.

And I thought holding up signs went out of style five years ago ;)

BTW, I'll be at ROH/WrestleMania/RAW/Smackdown myself too.
Critic_of_the_DawnPosted on 01/19/04 at 21:33:25

Hehe.  Was worth a shot. ;D

With regards to the shows you'll be at, so far only 'Mania is on my list.  I'd like to go to the Ring of Honor event as well, but most of my college's wrestling club (which I'm going with) sadly isn't interested.

Where are the Raw and SmackDown after that being held?  If SmackDown is in DC, I might be able to go myself, as that's where I go to college and I have Tuesdays off.  But, as I have classes on Monday night until 8, RAW is probably not doable.

Still, it'd be cool to run into a few people I know from online at those events.  I'll be sure to say hello if I see you.  What's your pick for the main event of 'Mania at the moment?  And do you think Spanky will be at the Ring of Honor show?

Raw is at the Continental Airlines Arena (Meadowlands), Smackdown at the Fleet Center in Boston.

We'll be coming to NYC on Friday Nov 12. If you're already up there then, we could meet at the Hard Rock Cafe that evening.

No idea on the main event... there are more (substatiated) rumors than slots on the card anyway. Nothing is etched in stone so far.

Vince is pushing hard for a Steve Austin match, although nobody has any idea what could be "special" enough to get him out of retirement.

Both Don Frye and Mark Coleman have been discussed as potential opponents for Kurt Angle but at least in the case of Frye, I'm not sure his neck would hold up to the schedule.

My personal bet is Angle vs Eddy and Benoit vs Triple H. If Edge can return in time, Lesnar vs Edge isn't out of the question, although Lesnar vs Goldberg is far more likely.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did a surprise confrontation with Randy Orton and Bruno Sammartino at Mania. I know Vince would love to present the "legend killer" with the one legend he couldn't kill.

Oh well... rumors, rumors, rumors ;)
Critic_of_the_DawnPosted on 01/22/04 at 02:58:26

I assume you mean Friday March 12?  Because if you're planning on coming in November... well...  I suppose you could avoid the crowds by going then, at least... ;)

Angle vs. Guerrero sounds excellent to me; both Eddie and John Cena really have a chance to step up in 2004, in my view.  Lesnar vs. Goldberg is a given, and I agree that it won't involve a title.  Given the build both men have had, it will draw on its own.  I feel foolish, but I'm picking Benoit for the winner of the Rumble, and I expect he'll face Triple H as Heyman will refuse to honor his contendership.

As for Edge, I've heard a few rumors that I place a lot of value on myself about how he's going to be used, but the 'net seems to indicate that he'll probably end up waiting until after Wrestlemania to return.

As for Austin, personally I'd like to see him wrestle his last match against Jericho.  Ideally, over time Austin's "Sherrif" job would go more and more to his head, slowly transforming him into that which he always stood against: an arrogant corporate lackey of Bischoff (who would leave most day to day stuff to Austin for the purposes of the angle.)  As 'Mania approached, Jericho would point this out in a continuation of their old feud from when Austin was GM, and Austin would make like Vince McMahon and try to silence Jericho's dissent.  This would culminate in a match between Jericho and Austin at Wrestlemania (probably XXI, as there's not enough time to properly build the angle for WMXX) in which Jericho went over cleanly when Austin passed out in the Walls in a Pool of his own blood.  Austin would awaken as he was being taken out, limp back to the ring, raise Jericho's hand, and give a big, classy "I'm passing the torch to this SOB and that's the bottom line" type farewell promo.

Probably not too likely, huh?

...

Actually, it'll probably happen.  Just switch every instance of Jericho for Triple H, and it becomes much more likely.  ;D
