Multiple Visualizers?????

vphankPosted on 01/05/04 at 15:38:19

I've ran a few cards and every now and then the visualizer stops showing who is currently wrestling.  I came to found out that there were two visualizer windows.  Any idea how this happened? or how to solve it?

Could it be that you had multiple instances of TNM 7 SE open?

That is the only way it can happen - unless TNM crashes or isn't closed via exiting the main menu. Clicking the "x" on the top right of the screen doesn't get the job done ;)

I'm pretty sure that I didn't.  One time it went away after a few matches but the lastest one didn't.  So I gave it the 3 finger salute and under the applications window in the task manager, it showed 2 visualizers and TNM. I closed one and it kinda worked fine after that.

The reason I say kinda is that I auto-hide my taskbar so I don't have to see everything that is open. Well after I closed one of the visualizers, the other one kept flashing at the bottom. That means that there is something new happening in the window. It doesn't do that when there is only one visualizer window.

Not a big deal, just thought I would ask and see if anyone else had that problem.

The Visualizer binary is started when TNM is launched via the BAT file. This is a trick, you see, because TNM itself doesn't even "know" if the Visualizer is running since it runs independently from the main program.

Conversely, when TNM is exited properly via the main menu, the Visualizer (TNMGS.EXE) is killed.

If it ever happens again, please let me know what the circumstances were because logically, it can only happen in one of two cases:

1) Multiple instances of TNM were started via TNM.BAT or
2) One instance of TNM is running while a previous instance exited improperly (crashed); this could have happened before putting your PC into sleep mode i.e.

Thanks!

I have to say that I think this is actually a (minor) bug, Oliver.  I've seen the same thing happen myself.  Only one instance of TNM7 was open.  The Visualizer will, on rare occasion, open more than one window.  A new one typically opens as a match starts.  I've seen anywhere from 2-5 windows open in total with no crashes and only 1 open instance of TNM.  The others just stick around.  Once this happens, the program tends to alternate between the open windows when displaying match information.

This is far from a showstopper, however.  I don't see it happen more than 1 out of 20 times or so, and it doesn't seem to effect how the program runs.  If you want to close the extra windows, simply quit TNM after the card ends.  This will close 1 open window.  Run TNM.bat again, and immediately quit again.  Do this until the windows are all gone.

That's quite interesting indeed... is there anything in particular you've noticed about this?

You know, the thing is: the Visualizer *can't* start multiple windows because it's an SDI ("single document interface") application meaning that it can only have one form at the same time.

I've personally never seen this at all.

Thank you very much for your help!

At least I'm not the only one who's had this problem.

Well, it occurs to me that back when I first got the Visualizer, it happened almost every 3 or 4 cards, but more recently I only see it very rarely.

The new window always opens between matches as it normally would in the screen position it normally would.  Perhaps, as closing TNM totally only closes one of the windows, it's simply failing to detect that it already has a window open because it's not presently the active window?  The fact that it doesn't update all of them that are open for each match, but seems to alternate between them with little rhyme or reason (thinking about it, I believe I've seen it use the same one several times in a row, then switch to an older one) may be important...  Dunno.
