Saving a Card / pmg:ctr error

NotTheMommaPosted on 01/04/04 at 22:53:02

I've just started playing TNM again, after moving over to XP.

Started a new circuit, and had a couple of cards without incident.

Third card in, I booked the matched, and tried to save it. I got 'Error *Number* at pgm:ctr *Number' or something similar. TNM exits to the desktop straight after displaying the error, so that's the only thing I can tell you.

I have run the TNMDIAG thing.

Funny thing is, I booked the card again, this time booking ONLY the Main Event, and it saved fine. I ran it without incident.

But, this is not the only time I've had problems running full length cards since getting XP (particualrly cards containing four corners / traingle / 6+ man tag matches.

Thanks for any relevant help.

You could try this:

1) Click Start -> Run
2) Type: cmd [return]
3) Type:
c: (or whatever drive your TNM 7 SE is on)
cd \tnm7se (or wherever you put your SE)
              tnm

Then the error will keep displaying.

I'm almost certain that the error you are getting is an error 7 ("out of memory"). This is the major change from 2000 to XP, as Microsoft has completely reinvented the DOS emulation and f...ed it up somewhat regarding memory management.

Before, it was like "Could I please have X bytes of memory for data?" - "Sure, here you go." whereas the answer is more like "Screw you, who needs DOS programs anyway".

It's all an issue of free conventional memory. I've personally set up at least three dozen XP systems for a client and out if interest ran TNM 7 SE on all of them. It ran fine and without any trace of a problem (since TNM was partially reprogrammed for XP with the SE edition) on all but two machines. No matter what I did, I couldn't get it to work properly on the other two. I sent a report to Microsoft asking for a statement regarding this. The reply I got indicated that the problems most likely stemmed from the graphics drivers on those machines.

Personally not seeing how one could affect the other, I replaced the graphics cards on those two PCs and lo and behold - the problems were gone. Then I put the original board backs in - and the problems were back. Then I deleted the card-specific drivers and with the normal VGA driver, things worked fine. Finally, I reinstalled the latest versions of the driver software, and things worked out fine again.

So I guess I have to take my hat off to the MS techies. Sometimes the least likely solutions does seem to be the right one.

Another possibility is that you have too many wrestlers, moves or (remotely possible) managers in your program. To find out the exact numbers, open the file TNM.INF (in the DATA folder) with Notepad. The first number is the number of wrestlers, the second the number of moves and the third the number of managers.

Please let me know what you find.

Thanks!

Yeah, it was an Error 7 (at pgm:ctr: 173139).

So, now I'll go and check all the Error 7 information and the thread on this board

Thanks

BTW, I have 1,579 wrestlers , 1045 moves and 139 managers.

My Config.SYS file is blank, so no wonder I have no space to run DOS programs.

Any idea where to go from here?

There you go - the recommended maximum is 800 wrestlers for TNM 7 SE!

After bringing your wrestler database down to a proper size *g*, please download the Database Cleaner plugin and let it clean out the move database.

That should help.
