Error 70 at pgm-ctr: 435

I keep getting this error, whenever a match is to be started..  It does the intros or interviews, but not the actual match!

I can't tell you what it means, but I remember getting that error for one card (and only the one so I haven't any troubles), but only for tag team matches. Odd, nest pas?

One or more .VAR files are inaccessible, i.e. can't be written to. Please delete ALL .VAR files in all folders and your problem will go away.

Well it worked out ok, I just restarted Windows, and restarted the card basically.  Themes worked too.  I remember though I made a backup of the TNM folder after it crashed.  So then I decided to restore the backup I made "IN" TNM just before I ran the card.  And well I did that, then tried to start the card.  Well my first match was an Interview, so that went fine, then next came a tag match, and well intro's worked with music too now.  Then as soon as it got to the "Match/Writing/Log/Text" or whatever you want to call it it crashed and gave that error.

So I just deleted that TNM Folder and replaced it with the one I had backed up.  And when I tried to empty the Recycling Bin  it said it couldn't delete "such and such" file because it was in use.  I think the file had the letters CH in it somewhere.  So that's when I restarted and everything was fine after that.  Except for when the card was done, some of the ratings were messed up.

The behaviour you're describing (Windows telling you files are in use) usually is a dead giveaway that there's some kind of logical problem with your hard disk, for instance cross-referenced clusters.

Please run Scandisk. If you're unable to delete files that aren't in use (which they aren't once you quit TNM), Windows found something wrong with them.

Up through Windows ME, I'd recommend running Scandisk at least once per week. This has nothing to do with TNM, though... it's just something wrong with FAT/FAT32.

OK that sounds great!  I'll start to do that more often.  Plus it probably will make things run alot quicker.  By the way, how long does it usually take to Scan Disk (Thorough) and DeFrag for most people?  Sometimes I've done it only 30, 60 & 80 GB drives and it can takes DAYS!!!   Is there something I'm doing wrong or is there an easier way to do it?

Defrag & Scandisk time varies based on the side of your HD, speed of your computer, and how badly out of place things are (in the case of Defrag).

However, that should only sometimes be a matter of hours, not days.

Make sure before you run Defrag or Scandisk that ALL programs are closed and the only thing active in Windows Task Manager is EXPLORER (aka Windows itself).  Also turn off your screen saver.  Any program accessing the hard drive can cause the Scandisk/Defrag to start over.

As an example, I have a 20 GB hard drive and a Pentium II/233 MHZ processor. Running Defrag on it takes about 2-3 hours and Scandisk about 1-2 hours. If yours takes that long or longer, I suggest using the Windows Task Scheduler to set them to run overnight when you're not using your PC. If you do that, there's really no need to shut down absolutely everything, but you definitely should shut down everything that doesn't run in the background (e.g., anti-virus software or device drivers) .
