HotShot?

DominusPosted on 08/06/03 at 08:26:53

What is a hotshot?  I use to think it was a Chopblock (sort of a clothesline/shoulderblock to the back of the leg), but I don't think it is.  Can anyone explain?

I might be wrong, but I think it might be a bit like a Stun Gun, Austin's old move where he would drop his opponents onto the rope, throat first.

Like I said though, I might be wrong.

It's the same move as the stun gun, although hotshot is the name it was given after Eddie Gilbert popularized it.

Ok what's the difference between Lariat & Clothesline?  I might be mistaken, but aren't these the same?

A lariat tends to have more... Impact. More swing.

Look at Bradshaw's lariat compared to a regular clothesline.

Sometimes it's got a bit of a roundhouse swing to it.

Very brutal when done correctly. Very fun to watch ;->

Very good example. If you've ever seen Hansen's lariat, compared to that even Bradshaw's is tame *g*

Well, wanted to give an example this "younger" crowd could follow ;->

And yes, I still think Hansen could have made Big Show fold up like RVD this past monday after that drop kick from Jericho (THAT'S a feud I'd LOVE to see.... If RVD would go back to his ECW Over-Cocky Mr. Monday Night, Whole F'n Show style)

Hansen's lariat was so brutal because his vision was terrible and he (obviously) didn't wear his glasses when working.

It's like Russian Roulette. :)  Maybe he'd hit you across the chest, but maybe he'd forearm your throat or face.

That's one way I never really looked at it. But you're right - his vision isn't exactly 20:20 ;-)

Speaking of lariats, watch for Pogo the Clown's version. It's so sloppy that he sent 3 wrestlers to the hospital.

Since we're talking about lariats here, what the heck is a Western lariat?

A lariat with a cowboy hat on LOL2003!!!!11shiftone

I have absolutely no idea, but I can't find a definition in the Big Big Book of Wrestling Moves, so my answer will stand until a better one is provided.
Oliver CoppPosted on 08/08/03 at 08:28:18

A Western lariat is something like the old Hart Attack Clothesline Bret Hart did, albeit swung like a lariat. The key is to have your arm stay connected to your opponent on his way down with you going down as well into a sitting position. Giant Baba used to do a variation of this that looked more like a Western clothesline ;-)
Yet_Another_MikePosted on 08/09/03 at 21:52:04

Cool! I've always liked the 'double clothesline spot', especially when they both end up in a 'sitting position'. I guess then that this move could be done out of the ropes, or while the wrestler or opponent is running?
