Major problem after install...

zombiecraigPosted on 08/02/03 at 11:17:08

Okay, I run TNM on XP and was having no problems. I had Beta 15 and all of the Easter Eggs unlocked. I downloaded the new SE update, installed it and tried to go into a circuit. It crashed to the DOS prompt without any error message. I made sure no files were "read only" because I thought that could be a possible problem, but I had no problems with Beta 15. So I checked WHATEGGS and saw that it said I have no eggs unlocked. Does anyone have any idea what I did wrong? Hopefully someone can help. I had a nice historical WWF circuit going that I really want to get back to. Please help! Thank you. :'(

TNMDIAG did not help, by the way.

Craig, this sounds like an odd Windows thing since it seems like you're one of only two people who have seen this happen.

Please check out the files I sent you to the list.

Thanks!

Perfect!  Or at least it seems to be so far.  I can get into my circuits again.  Thanks a million, Oliver!  I was pretty disturbed.  And don't worry about the Easter Eggs.  I can just unlock them again, right?  Thanks for all your hard work.  I've enjoyed TNM for years!

Okay im not sure if this is the same thing. But I DL Build 1. Had all the betas and was doing fine. Now when i run TNM7SE (on XP) it opens and when i click on a circuit or database it crashes out of the program. Any thoughts or help would be great.

This is what TNM Diag says . . . .

TNM.INF not found or incomplete.
Checking tag team file...
Tag team file ok. Number of teams found: 0
Dives found in database: 76
Wrestlers found in database: 0
Moves found in database: 372
Managers found in database: 0

Main data files appear to be perfectly ok.

Press any key...

Checking Ultimate Supreme Wrestling Federation Circuit.
Circuit wrestler database should contain 0 records. It indicates
326 records and actually contains 326 records.
That's a problem.

There seems to be a problem with the circuit database. It is
advised that you have it deleted. If it gets deleted, you will
lose all circuit-specific changes you have made to the wrestlers
in this circuit only. No other circuits will be affected.

Have you imported any wrestlers so far?

Second question: if the circuit wrestler database contains 300+ entries... how did they get there on a fresh install :) ?

Is there anything else you can let me know?
JohnManardPosted on 08/09/03 at 02:11:28

It wasnt a fresh install. I down loaded the game that said pre something or other. The wrestlers are the wrestlers that were in my Database and i had six circuits already. I just extracted over what was in the old tnm folder per the other posts. I think that is what i was suppose to do.
JohnManardPosted on 08/09/03 at 02:11:59

Have not imported any wrestlers.
Oliver CoppPosted on 08/09/03 at 02:22:32

So where does the circuit come from?
JohnManardPosted on 08/09/03 at 02:29:34

I had TNM 7SE betas. . ihad six circuis running, they were all running under the Betas. I just extracted to that folder. I am beginning to think this was a bad idea.

my AOL IM is JohnManard and my YAHOO is johnnyaces_2000 if you need other info fast.

Thanks.
Oliver CoppPosted on 08/09/03 at 02:59:42

Did you use the preinstalled version? You mentioned that you "extracted to that folder" which has left me a bit puzzled.

If you used the installer, there's no chance it deleted any data but if you extracted the pre-installed version, that's very likely because it sets up a completely new TNM.

Is there any additional info you can give me on the topic of what exactly you installed and so on?

Thanks.
JohnManardPosted on 08/09/03 at 03:14:02

I downloaded the pre installed version (tnm7se-pre) and it was a zip file that made me xtract it to the tnm folder. I extracted it to the folder and it overwrote everything I think.
Oliver CoppPosted on 08/09/03 at 10:49:57

Yes, it did. That's why it's called a "pre-installed version" because it's the version you get by installing it into an empty folder.

Did you take it to mean that it's for users who have installed a previous version? In that case, I hope you still have a backup of your wrestlers somewhere. The good news is that your circuit's intact. The bad news is that you'll probably need to send me the circuit folder (zipped) and I'll then send you a version of SE with precisely the wrestlers you had in that copy (provided I have them all). And you might end up having to reassign contracts afterwards.

Your circuit isn't lost, though. Actually, do you have a backup file in the BACKUPS folder anywhere? If so, please include the most recent one (zipped up) with your circuit's ZIP.

Thanks.

After hours of battling it around and lookin at things I realized that is what had happened. I also think I had a corrupt database in one of the circuits. Im not too sad about losing the circuits . .it was more the wrestlers. I lost about a dozen created guys. I was able to move my backup folder and pull an older backup and everything worked on TNM 7SE  . . . it recreated something or other. I salvaged what I wanted and let the rest go and than did a clean fresh install of SE.

I really think between 7-3-03 when I made that backup and yesterday something got corrupt in the database. I remember something odd happening where there were a bunch of blank wrestlers at one time in a circuit.
