TSW Card #7- Erie, PA - 'Last Chance Gulch'

jesse_ewiakPosted on 04/25/04 at 06:45:16

Pentagon and Psicosis defeated The New Nation (Mark Henry and The Godfather) when
Psicosis pinned Godfather with the Flying Legdrop in 6:04.
Rating: *** 1/2

Notes: The night starts off with the challenge from last week, as the current TSW Tag Champs met the New Nation in the middle of the ring. Henry & The Godfather dominated early after a pier-sixer to start off the match, but soon enough Psic used his aerial abilities to keep both of his opponents off-kilter. After getting out of an attempted Pimp Drop, Psicosis is able to get The Godfather on the ground, and get the pin. Not that it really helps, as after the match the brawl starts up right again with The Godfather, along with one of his Ho's claiming Psic pulled the tights.

Backstage segment with Cibernetico pulling his number for the Last Chance Gulch match, only not to be pleased with it and threataning TSW ref Frank Grey. At least, we assume that's what he was doing as no one here knows Spanish.

Don Frye defeated Bubba Ray Dudley by countout in 15:34.
Rating: *** 1/4

Notes: Good match between two tough men. Bubba had the advantage most of the match as it spilled outside, but everytime it seemed the eldest Dudley had the match put away, Frye was able to get a reversal and thus put on a submission to wear down Bubba. At the end though, it was a fluke move on the outside which knocked out Bubba and allowed Frye to pick up the cheap win.

Cibernetico pinned Joel Maximo after a Gorilla Press in 0:54.
Rating: * 1/4

Notes: As Joel came out of the backstage area, Ciber attacked him from behind, dragging him to the ring, then finishing him off early with the Gorilla Press. Ciber then steals Maximo's number for the battle royal later tonight!

Another backstage segment, this time it's Angle looking around the locker room only to get stopped by Saturn and Wight. Saturn asks him if he's got a partner for tonight. Angle simply smiles Shark Boy leaps from the top of the lockers with the HULK HANDS~ and beats on a surprised Perry as Angle throws Wight into the lockers! Quick brawl, before the Usual Gang of Idiots all run in to break it up.

Jimmy Rave pinned Steve Armstrong after hitting him with a road sign in 1:03.
Rating: **

Notes: Hmm...must be running long. The ref gets bumped early, Armstrong brings in the plundah, only to get it taken away and then nailed with it. Rave gets out of Dodge, knowing when Armstrong wakes up, he won't be happy.

Notes:
Ken Shamrock pinned Gabriel after a Frankensteiner in 12:28.
Rating: *** 1/2

Notes: Gabriel wanted to prove he belonged in the top tier, so Shamrock obliged, even putting his spot in the tournment on the line. Gabriel got a few near falls in a very good match, but Shamrock used his experience and size advantage to hit a few key suplexes, then a Frankensteiner for the pin and the win! Gabriel complained after the match to no avail as Shamrock celebrated and made title belt motions.

Perry Saturn and Paul Wight defeated Kurt Angle and Shark Boy when Wight pinned
Shark with the Showstopper in 17:13.
Rating: ** 1/4

Notes: Complete and utter chaos from the start of the match to the end as all four men wanted to prove they were the true man to beat for the TSW Heavyweight Title. Shark Boy was resiliant throughout the match, even kicking out of a Perry Saturn DVD while Wight and Angle continued their mini-feud, battling every few minutes on the outside or inside, wherever they may be. Angle and Saturn didn't even bother with the wrestling when they were in together late, instead taking out each other with a variety of suplexes! In the end though, Wight was in late with Shark Boy and that was all she wrote for SB as he fell to the Showstopper. After the match, the war just continued as Saturn took out Angle with a DVD through the timekeepers table!

Rating: *** 1/2

Notes: Steve Armstrong came into this match determined from the start, and when the dust settled, he survived from moment one until the end taking on some very impressive wrestlers throughout the match. Johnny Smith was also impressive, taking it to Armstrong and everyone else all night, even his partner Erik Watts! However, late in the match Armstrong got lucky taking advantaged of a weakened Smith who took a Pimp Drop late, then simply was smarter than The Godfather and survived to win the last spot!

Card rating: ** 3/4

Wow.  What a surprise ending in the last chance gulch match.  Never would have suspected Steve Armstrong dominating in the battle royal match.  But now he faces Angle?  poor Armstrong.  ;)
